RethinkDB on AWS - Self-Hosted Database Service with Websoft9 Console
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you choose to run this self-hosted database. Pricing scales with the size and family of the instance, not with any software tier. Smaller general-purpose types like t2.nano or t2.micro cost less per hour, while memory-optimized (r5, x1e), compute-optimized (c5, c4), storage-optimized (i3, d2), and GPU or accelerated types (p3, g3, f1) cost more as capacity grows. You select one instance type that fits your workload and pay only for the hours it runs. The database software itself is open source.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly charge on a given instance type?
You get one running EC2 virtual machine of the size and family you pick, preloaded with the database and the management console. Larger types give more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware. The hourly rate covers that instance while it runs. You choose one type per deployment.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing hourly software fees. Underlying AWS storage tied to the stopped instance may still incur separate AWS costs. Metering resumes when you start the instance again.
Does the instance type I pick affect what software features I get?
No. The database software is the same open source build across every instance type. Your choice only changes compute, memory, storage, or GPU capacity and the hourly rate. Pick a type that matches your workload size, not a software tier. Larger types simply run bigger or busier databases.
