You pay by the hour for each running instance, billed through AWS Marketplace as software usage. The pricing dimensions map to AWS arm64 (Graviton) instance types, since this image runs only on that architecture. Each dimension names a specific instance size across families like general purpose, compute, memory, and storage. The software rate is the same idea across all of them: you pick the instance by the cache size you need, because the cache auto-sizes to the instance's RAM. More RAM means more cache, with no configuration change. AWS bills the EC2 instance, storage, and traffic separately.

What do I get for the hourly software rate on each instance type?
You get the hardened Memcached image running on that arm64 (Graviton) instance. It ships with SASL authentication, TLS encryption, a default-deny firewall, and other hardening enabled. The cache auto-sizes to the instance RAM on each boot. Larger instances give more cache without configuration changes.
Am I charged the software rate when an instance is stopped?
The hourly software fee meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while stopped. Switching instance size means stopping, changing the type, and booting; the cache then resizes itself.
Does the software rate cover my full AWS bill for running this?
No. The hourly rate is the software fee only, billed per instance. You also pay AWS directly for the EC2 instance, EBS disk, and network traffic at your own rate. Because this is an in-memory cache, choose the instance for RAM rather than disk.
