You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension is a specific instance size, so your rate follows the compute capacity you select. Smaller instances carry lower hourly rates, while larger memory-, compute-, storage-, and accelerator-optimized instances carry higher rates. This is usage-based billing, so you only pay for hours the software runs. You can start small and move to a larger instance as your log volume grows. No upfront commitment applies; the software charge is added to your standard AWS compute costs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what determines the rate I pay?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type running the software. You pay one hourly rate for the instance you launch. The rate reflects that instance's compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity. Running two instances means two hourly charges. The software rate is separate from the underlying AWS infrastructure cost.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped, for example during off-hours or a standby node?
The software charge meters running hours only. A stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software fee. Attached storage may still incur standard AWS costs while the instance is stopped. If you restart it, hourly software billing resumes for the hours it runs.
Does the hourly software fee include the underlying AWS compute cost, or are they billed separately?
They are billed separately. The hourly software fee for Titan Syslog Server for Linux is added on top of your standard AWS charge for the EC2 instance. Larger instances raise both the AWS compute cost and the software rate. Both appear on your AWS invoice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Connect securely to your vm instance over SSH using your own keypair, or via the Azure or EC2 console.
Once you are connected to the instance terminal session the initial Titan Syslog administrator account needs to be configured. To configure the Titan Syslog administrator account, use the following command and supply your new administrator credentials. It's imporant to use a complex password consisting of a minimum of 8 characters in length, both upper and lower case, one or more numbers, and one or more special characters consisting of the following characters "(~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/)", and it must not included the username in the password.
After the password hase been created you can hit control+c to return to the shell.
Once the Titan Syslog administrative credentials have been established you can now connect to the Titan Syslog web-based admin console through your web-browser by pointing it to https://<ipaddress>:44443. Note that this is a secure connection. However, since Titan Syslog is using a temporary certificate, you will see a security warning in the browser. Proceed past the security warning and log in to the Titan Syslog Server Admin console. At this point you will be able to configure the Titan Syslog application including adding your own TLS certificate if you wish. To import your own certificate click on "Manage Certificate" in the "Local Domain" section to import your certificate, then select this certificate from the list in the domain dialog (click on edit action).
