The c8i options cover compute workloads, with sizes from xlarge up to 96xlarge. The g6e and g7e options add GPU capacity for AI and graphics work, ranging from xlarge to 48xlarge. The hpc7a and hpc8a options target high-performance computing at 48xlarge and 96xlarge sizes. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute, memory, or GPU resources. The hourly software charge meters running time only. When you stop an instance, the per-hour software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage or other resources tied to a stopped instance may still incur separate AWS fees, but the operating system licence bills active running hours.
Each running instance is billed per hour based on the instance type you selected. A larger size within a family carries a higher hourly rate because it provides more compute, memory, or GPU resources. You are billed separately for each instance you run.
