Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. Stopped instances do not accrue this fee. You may still owe separate AWS charges for attached storage on a stopped instance, but the hardened image rate meters running hours only.
How does my hourly cost change if I switch to a bigger instance type?
Switching instance types changes your rate automatically for hours run on the new type. The hourly charge rises with instances offering more compute, memory, storage, or GPU capacity. You are billed at each type's rate for the hours you actually run it, with no upfront commitment.
