Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, and you pick the one that fits your workload. The hourly software rate scales with the instance you choose, so larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU instances carry higher rates than smaller ones. This charge covers the vendor's hardening, compliance documentation, and updates. It runs on top of separate AWS infrastructure charges for the instance itself.

What does one hourly unit map to for billing?
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type running this image. You pay the software rate for each hour that instance runs. One unit equals one running instance of the type you selected. Larger instances carry higher hourly software rates than smaller ones.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue this hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but those are AWS infrastructure fees, not the vendor's software rate.
What do I get for the software charge beyond the operating system?
The rate covers a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 image hardened using NIST-based controls, plus PCI compliance documentation and regular updates. Over 100 security controls are enabled and the image is updated monthly. AWS infrastructure charges for the instance itself are billed separately.

Usage instructions
Launch the image inside your secure VPC.
Scope access to trusted IPs only. Avoid exposing the instance directly to the internet.
Use AWS Systems Manager Session Manager or connect via VPN if possible.
To connect via SSH: ssh ec2-user@<your-ec2-public-ip>.
Ensure port 22 is open in your security group and locked down to your IP.
No additional steps are required. The system is already fully hardened and ready to use.
