Apache TomEE is an all-Apache Jakarta EE 9.1 certified application server extends Apache Tomcat that is assembled from a vanilla Apache Tomcat zip file. We start with Apache Tomcat, add our jars, and zip up the rest. The result is Tomcat plus EE features - TomEE. Apache TomEE comes with different flavors, we have installed the most complete of them, called Plus.

You pay by the hour for a preconfigured Apache TomEE (Plus) image running on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Pricing is not tiered by feature. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type you choose to run the software on. Your hourly software rate changes with the instance you pick, which is added to the underlying AWS compute cost. Options span burstable t2 and t3 families for lighter workloads and general-purpose m4, m5, m6, and m7 families in sizes from nano up to metal. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates as compute capacity increases.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I actually paying for?
Each hourly unit covers the preconfigured Apache TomEE (Plus) software image running on one EC2 instance of the type you select. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs. This software charge is separate from and added to the underlying AWS compute cost for that instance.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS costs, not the software license charge.
Why do the hourly rates differ across the instance types listed?
Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type with different compute, memory, and network capacity. Burstable t2 and t3 families suit lighter, intermittent workloads. General-purpose m4, m5, m6, and m7 families handle steadier demand. Larger sizes, up to metal, carry higher hourly rates as capacity increases.
