You pay by the hour for a preconfigured Apache Tomcat 10 image running on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, you pick one Amazon EC2 instance type, and the hourly rate follows the size and family you choose. The software itself is the same across all choices. Smaller shared-CPU types like the t2 and t3 families suit light workloads. General-purpose m4 through m7 families scale up to metal sizes for heavier compute, memory, and network needs. Your cost rises as you select larger or newer instance types. Billing runs only while instances run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for a chosen instance type like m6i.large?
You are billed per hour that a single EC2 instance runs the Apache Tomcat 10 image. One unit equals one running instance of the size and family you selected. The rate reflects that instance's compute, memory, and network capacity. Running two instances doubles the hourly software charge.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. A stopped or terminated instance stops accruing the software fee. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still incur separate AWS charges even when the instance is not running.
How do I move to a larger or newer instance type if my workload grows?
Pricing is not tiered, so there is no automatic upgrade. You choose a different instance type when you launch, such as moving from an m5 to an m7 family or a larger size. The hourly rate then follows the new instance's capacity. The Apache Tomcat 10 software stays the same across all types.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
