Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run this preconfigured database server on. The software itself carries an hourly software fee that stacks on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, grouped into families: compute-optimized (c-series), general-purpose (m-series and t-series burstable), memory-focused (r-series), and storage-focused (i-series). Larger sizes (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) offer more CPU and memory and cost more per hour. Smaller sizes (nano, micro, small, medium) cost less. You pick the size that fits your workload; there is no term commitment.

You get a preconfigured relational database server running on Debian. The image includes the database engine, a web-based administration frontend on a dedicated SSL port, a system control panel, a database tuning script, and a dedicated remote database user. Automatic security updates are enabled. Bundled cloud backup and support come through free vendor registration.
The software fee meters running time only. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge does not accrue. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge. There is no term commitment, so you can stop and start freely.
Your total hourly rate has two parts that both track the instance size: the AWS infrastructure charge and the software fee. Moving to a larger size raises both parts for the hours you run that size. You can switch sizes anytime, since billing is hourly with no commitment.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
