After 2 years, 1 month, and 30 days of development, the Debian project is proud to present its new stable version 13 (code name trixie).
Debian 13 contains over 14,100 new packages for a total count of 69,830 packages, while over 8,840 packages have been removed as obsolete. 44,326 packages were updated in this release. The overall disk usage for trixie is 403,854,660 kB (403 GB), and is made up of 1,463,291,186 lines of code.
With this broad selection of packages and its traditional wide architecture support, Debian once again stays true to its goal of being The Universal Operating System. It is suitable for many different use cases: from desktop systems to netbooks; from development servers to cluster systems; and for database, web, and storage servers.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
The Debian 13 operating system software is free. You pay no charge for the software itself across every option listed. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS Arm-based (arm64) EC2 instance type, billed hourly for the compute you run. Sizes range from small shared instances up to bare-metal and 48xlarge configurations. You pick the instance that fits your workload; larger instances carry higher hourly AWS compute costs. What does one hourly unit map to for each of these dimensions?
Each dimension maps to one specific Arm-based (arm64) EC2 instance type. You are billed for each hour that instance runs. The instance size sets the vCPU, memory, and storage you receive. The Debian software adds no charge, so you pay only the underlying AWS compute rate.
Am I charged for an instance that is stopped or paused?
The Debian software is free, so it adds no charge whether the instance runs or stops. Hourly compute charges apply only while an instance is running. A stopped instance stops accruing compute charges, though attached AWS storage may still incur separate fees billed by AWS.
How do I move between instance families, like from compute-optimized to memory-optimized?
You choose the instance type when you launch, then can switch by stopping and relaunching on a different type. Hourly compute cost changes to match the new instance size and family. The Debian software price stays free across every family, including general-purpose, storage-optimized, graphics, and bare-metal options.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance.
