You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run this billing platform on. Each dimension maps to one AWS instance size, from small general-purpose types up to large compute-, memory-, and storage-focused instances. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates, so you scale cost by choosing the instance that fits your workload. This is a software fee billed on top of your standard AWS infrastructure costs. Your team deploys and operates the stack in your own AWS account. Pick the instance size that matches your expected traffic and processing needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to, and what does the software fee cover?
Each unit is one hour of running the selected AWS instance type. The billed amount is a software fee for the billing platform. You also pay your standard AWS infrastructure costs separately for the EC2 instance, storage, and the Aurora database this multi-tier deployment uses.
Am I charged the software fee when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS charges, such as storage for attached volumes and the Aurora database, which bill separately from this software fee.
How does cost change if I move to a larger instance for higher traffic?
Each dimension is one instance size at its own hourly rate. You switch by launching the platform on a different instance type. The new rate applies for hours run on that instance. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates, so cost scales with the size you choose, not automatically.

The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
