Options span general-purpose (m5, t2, t3), compute-optimized (c6i), memory-optimized (r6a), storage-focused (i2, i3, hs1), and accelerated instances (g5, f1, dl1, trn1, inf1, vt1, h1) in sizes from large to 48xlarge. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. Billing stops when you stop the instance, so you pay only for hours used.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each unit is one hour of running the software on the EC2 instance type you select. The rate bundles the software license with that specific instance size. You pick one instance type, and its hourly rate applies for each hour that instance runs.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops. Note that underlying AWS storage fees for a stopped instance may still apply separately, but the software meters running hours only.
There are no tiers to upgrade. Your rate is tied to the instance type you launch. To change your rate, launch the software on a different instance type. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates, so switching sizes changes your cost directly.
