What does one hourly unit cover for these instance types?
Each unit is one hour of running the software on the EC2 instance type you select. The rate bundles the software license with that specific instance size. You pick one instance type, and its hourly rate applies for each hour that instance runs.
Am I charged when I stop or pause the EC2 instance?
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops. Note that underlying AWS storage fees for a stopped instance may still apply separately, but the software meters running hours only.
How do I change my hourly rate if my workload needs a different instance size?
There are no tiers to upgrade. Your rate is tied to the instance type you launch. To change your rate, launch the software on a different instance type. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates, so switching sizes changes your cost directly.
