Each dimension maps to a specific instance size across families like t2, m3, m4, c3, c4, r3, r4, i2, i3, g2, g3, p2, d2, h1, f1, x1, and metal options. Larger instances with more compute, memory, or GPU resources carry higher hourly rates. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and billing scales with your run time and selected size.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit represent for each instance type?
One unit is one hour that the software runs on a single EC2 instance of the chosen type. You are billed per running hour. Each instance type has its own hourly rate. Running more instances or larger types adds hours and cost independently on the same invoice.
Am I charged when my EC2 instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running hours only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage or resource fees may still apply while the instance exists, but those are separate from this hourly software rate.
How do I change my hourly rate if my workload grows?
The rate follows the EC2 instance type you run the image on. To move to more compute, memory, or GPU, launch the image on a different instance type. Your hourly charge then matches that new type. Billing is not tied to a fixed commitment.

Usage instructions
Once the instance has completed running, connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client with your configured SSH key. The default username is 'ubuntu'.
SSH into your server as user 'ubuntu' to the running instance and use sudo to run commands requiring root access.
Run docker test with: sudo docker run hello-world
To see the images that have been downloaded to your computer, sudo docker ps
If you need to start docker run: sudo systemctl start docker
If you need to start a docker compose project run: docker compose up -d
