You pay by the hour for SlashDB running on your choice of EC2 instance type. The 18 dimensions are not feature tiers. Each one maps to a specific AWS instance size, so your hourly rate depends on the compute capacity you select. The t3 instances (micro through 2xlarge) offer burstable general-purpose compute. The m4, m5, and m5n instances (large through 4xlarge) offer steady general-purpose compute at increasing sizes. All dimensions deliver the same software. You scale by picking a instance and running it for the hours you need.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What compute capacity do I get with a t3 instance versus an m4, m5, or m5n instance?
The t3 instances (micro through 2xlarge) provide burstable general-purpose compute, meaning performance can spike above a baseline for short periods. The m4, m5, and m5n instances (large through 4xlarge) provide steady, sustained general-purpose compute. All run the same SlashDB software; only the underlying capacity differs.
Am I charged when my SlashDB instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. Stopping or powering off the instance halts the hourly software meter. Underlying AWS storage or reserved resources may still incur separate AWS fees, but the SlashDB license meters running hours only.
Can I connect SlashDB to more than one database on a single instance?
Yes. SlashDB gives a central access point for multiple relational databases, forming a single interface across them while keeping user access control. Adding more databases does not change your pricing dimension. Your hourly cost depends only on the instance type you select and run.
