Deploy Hyper-V server for Nested Virtualization on AWS. Host multiple Windows OS types, Linux OS types and container nested virtual machines.
Virtualization technologies, or platforms, are more commonly referred to as hypervisors. There are several different hypervisors on the market HyperV is Microsofts version. Some others that are well-known are VMWare ESXi and VSphere, XenServer (Citrix), KVM Open Source Hypervisor, RHEV (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization), VirtualBox and other types of Virtual Server.
Hyper-V Server Benefits:
Hyper V supports multiple operating systems
Migrate or Repicate VMs on prem to AWS
Provide Disaster Recovery (DR) and backup to your on premises servers
Create isolated DEV/TEST environments to test applications
Replicate VMs from physical sites to provide an offsite backup of your VMs
Run entire Windows Server failover cluster environments on Hyper-V
Create Windows Server Containers
Security - Secure boot and shielded VM protect against malware and unauthorized access to the VM and its data.
Highlights
With Hyper-V running on AWS, you are now able to replicate Hyper-V virtual machines you have on prem to Hyper-V running on AWS. This provides full disaster recovery and a backup solution to your physical sites.
Create isolated environments using Hyper V, great for Dev/Test environments. Option to create a NAT to access your current resources on your VPC.
Host multiple Windows OS types, Linux OS types and container nested virtual machines.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
You pay by the hour based on which AWS bare metal EC2 instance you run this software on. Every dimension maps to one specific metal instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage size of the instance you pick. Compute-focused, memory-focused, storage-focused, and large-memory families are all offered, including options up to multiple terabytes of memory. You choose the instance that fits your workload; the hourly rate follows that choice. There are no tiers or add-ons — each instance type is an independent, self-contained hourly option.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to when I run this software?
Each dimension bills for one AWS bare metal EC2 instance running by the hour. You pay for the physical metal server type you launch, not per guest VM. You can host as many nested guest virtual machines as you like on that host at no extra software charge.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running instance-hours, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly software fees. Note that bare metal instances can take up to 30 minutes to boot. Underlying AWS storage, such as EBS volumes holding your guest VM disks, may still incur separate AWS fees while stopped.
How do I pick which metal instance dimension drives my cost?
You choose one metal instance type that fits your workload, and its hourly rate applies. Compute-focused, memory-focused, and storage-focused families differ in CPU, memory, and storage. Instance store data on some types is lost when stopped, so store guest VM disks on attached EBS volumes.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
