The Linux operating system AMIs released by Kurian are patched and up-to-date on the day of the release, and the updates are published quarterly. These production grade AMIs are ideal for use with automated provisioning processes such as that in an autoscale group without having to worry about applying the patches and the delays involved in doing that.
Based on this baseline operating system release, Kurian has released pre-configured software applications such as Wordpress, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, DevOps tools, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on the CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures.

You pay by the hour for this Oracle Linux 8 image, billed per running instance. Pricing follows the AWS EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size and family, from small burstable types like t2 and t3 up to large memory, compute, storage, and accelerated instances such as x2iedn, u-24tb1, and p4d. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. There are no tiers or upfront commitments. Your software cost scales with the instance you launch and how many hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for this Oracle Linux 8 image?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select. You pay the software rate for each hour that instance runs. The rate matches the instance size and family you launch. Running two instances bills two separate hourly charges at the same rate.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You may still owe separate AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but those are billed by AWS, not by this software listing.
What patching or updates come with this image?
The image ships patched and up to date on its release day. Kurian publishes refreshed images each quarter. This suits automated provisioning, such as auto-scaling groups, where you want current patches without waiting to apply them before adding machines.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
