Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with the software license embedded in the price. Every dimension maps to a specific ARM-based EC2 instance type, so you choose based on the hardware you need. Options span several instance families and sizes, from medium up to 16xlarge. Larger sizes carry more compute and cost more per hour. Some families include local storage variants (the 'd' types). You add capacity by launching more or larger instances. Charges accrue only while instances run, and Amazon separately bills for compute time, storage, and bandwidth.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You get an ARM-based Amazon Machine Image with the software preloaded. The embedded license allows unlimited use of the Transcoder, nDVR, and DRM features. You do not enter or manage a separate license key on paid instances, since the license is built into the hourly price.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs, from boot until you stop it. Terminating the instance stops charges but erases all files and changes on the server. A stopped instance may still incur AWS storage fees. Save data to storage before terminating.
Each dimension maps to one ARM instance type. Larger sizes carry more compute cores and cost more per hour. The 'd' family variants add local storage. You do not pay a separate software fee per size; the hourly rate for your chosen type already includes the license.
