Usage-based Licensing
Flexible licensing for your Thinkbox creative tools
Important note:
We are excited to share that V-Ray UBL is now supported in AWS Deadline Cloud. If you’re using V-Ray, you can now leverage the new Deadline Cloud UBL feature to render with flexible, usage-based licensing. For setup instructions, please refer to link.
As we continue transitioning from the legacy system, please
note the following key dates and changes:
- V-Ray and RenderMan UBL purchases on the Thinkbox
Marketplace will be available until August 15, 2025. After this date, no
additional V-Ray UBL hours can be purchased from the Thinkbox marketplace. - Yeti and RenderMan UBL will not be supported in Deadline Cloud. However, you can continue using Yeti with Bring Your Own License (BYOL).
- All previously purchased UBL hours from the Thinkbox Marketplace can be used until the final deprecation date of September 30, 2025.
For any questions about existing UBL purchases, please reach out to: support@awsthinkbox.zendesk.com.
Introduction
AWS Thinkbox's usage-based licensing is an on-demand licensing model that works with both on-premises and cloud-based render nodes and works alongside existing permanent and temporary licenses.
Usage-based licensing works with AWS Thinkbox Deadline and AWS Thinkbox Krakatoa and is available for selected third-party products:
- The Foundry's NUKE and KATANA
- Chaos Group's V-Ray
- Maxon Cinema 4D
- Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya
- SideFX Houdini Engine
- Arnold Render
- Redshift
Purchasing render time and configuring AWS Thinkbox Deadline
Purchase usage-based licensing for AWS Thinkbox Deadline or 3rd party products from the AWS Thinkbox Marketplace at any time. Any purchased render time is automatically added to your Customer Portal account, which is created after your first purchase from the Marketplace. Use your Customer Portal to review your order history and monitor your render time usage. Note that render time is only consumed while the AWS Thinkbox Deadline Worker application is rendering.
After purchasing render time, some additional steps are required to configure AWS Thinkbox Deadline to use your render time. Please review the Deadline licensing documentation for more information on configuring AWS Thinkbox Deadline and accessing your Customer Portal. In addition, refer to the AWS Thinkbox Deadline licensing FAQ for more information about how usage-based licensing works.
