What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Staying up to date the minute my clients are mentioned helps minimize potentially harmful PR related issues, which is a huge benefit to staying on top of communication.

Dashboard is appealing to the eye. Daily reports are helpful.

Hard to build lists. Contacts are incomplete or outdated.

Very powerful, but rather expensive

I love being able to access all of the times our organization has been mentioned in the news (or on social media) and generate a report for funding/reporting purposes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Alas, software like this comes with a price. I wish it were slightly cheaper, though they do offer tiered packages based on what you can pay.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a way to track our media hits (and other analytics associated with those hits). This service does a great job at tracking a variety of keywords that you select, and maintaining a database of the places where the keywords appear in the news. We also use Meltwater to identify appropriate reporters who may be interested in our occasional press releases.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This has been an incredible timesaver for me as a communications manager, especially when it comes to quarterly reporting to our board and publishing our annual report. Just be sure you know what you need from a service like this so that you don't waste your money.
Picks Up Way More than Google Analytics
What do you like best about the product?
It's a pretty streamlined experience. Similar to Google Analytics, but it definitely catches a lot more mentions of my organization's title. I haven't added additional words/phrases to look for yet, but it allows for that. The email updates are pretty straightforward and easy to scan since it includes what platform the mention was made on (Facebook post, website title, etc), the date and time, and sometimes even an associated image.
What do you dislike about the product?
I usually have to click through the email to "view more results" when it'd be a time saver to just see them all in my inbox, but not a big deal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We previously just used Google Analytics but knew that tons of mentions were slipping through the cracks. Meltwater picks up way more, and it finds mentions on social which is very helpful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
At least do the trial, you'll see if it picks up more than you were previously, and if it does, it's worth having. In this day and age, you need to know what people are saying about your organization online.

I wish that I had more time to delve into more of the custom/advanced tools

It's been great at helping us get a handle on our global and regional brand presence. It's also helpful for viewing product categories and the competitive landscape as well as seeing social reach.
Limited social listening data
What do you like best about the product?
It's highly customizable. You can do a boolean search for nearly any combination of things, which makes your search endlessly customizable. It's possible to find exactly what you're looking for.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a very limited data set. Search only pulls data from the last 13 months - basically just Twitter and a few public Facebook and Instagram stragglers. Searches that you've set up as "listen" presets collect data and add to a historical database. But the drawback here is that if you add a new partner or spokesperson, there's no way to go back and retroactively add that data.
Dashboards are hard to set up and aren't easy to change. Plus there are no real options to stylize or consolidate widgets into more digestible formats.

Social listening is an important piece of our business, especially in tracking competitors. But seeing that Facebook is still the largest player in the social space, looking at Sysomos data is really only giving you a small piece of the overall picture.

Tracking media coverage and analyzing placements (their reach/impressions, whether it was negative or positive, etc.). It's also a great tool to us to monitor organic pickup.

We tried out their media database for media and influencer tracking and it was hard to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is how we track and monitor media coverage. It provides an easy tool with email updates so I can stay on top of my clients. Not only does it allow me to track placements my agency has secured, but we use it to stay on top of organic pickup as well as any potential media crisis situations.

It is my favorite media monitoring and analytic tool.

What do you like best about the product?
The searches and widgets are easily customizable and the searches allow me to capture hits in non-Roman letters, which is critical in an international NGO

Searches are limited and require editing in full Boolean (as opposed to saving one and letting me make simple additions with key words)

Monitoring media coverage, and I've been better able to influence our media metrics by accounting for type and quality of coverage

I love the search method - very comprehensive and easy to use.

I work in the ag industry and it's not very well suited for that industry.

Easier metrics reporting and consistent reporting across all clients.

It's a great tool for monitoring media and social activity. I hope they're outreach tool becomes more comprehensive and they can enhance they're influencer database.
