Good for entry-level; but are they the best?
What do you like best about the product?
It does what it's supposed to - it's a good aggregator of news items and helps in tracking trends for specific issue keywords.
What do you dislike about the product?
This tool isn't as user-friendly as it could be. The learning curve required should be a bit shorter.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is great for generating multiple links to news coverage in an easy-to-share format. It helps with pushing things to social media staff.
Poorly trained customer service and customer reps. Turnover is very frequent. Clunky platform.
What do you like best about the product?
I originally purchased this program for news monitoring and sending out press releases. The news monitoring is okay but the platform for sending press releases is clunky and hard to use. Silly icons instead of text that you are supposed to know what they refer to. Customer service is condescending.
What do you dislike about the product?
Platform is clunkly with a bunch of graphs that don't really tell you anything. Employees all seem to be 20 something's who don't stay at the job long. Customer service in condescending. What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sending press releases.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have them do a thorough demonstration and ask lots of questions about sending emails and ease of use. The software is overly complicated and slow for what it's supposed to do.
Great coverage tracking in addition to usual searches
What do you like best about the product?
The user interface for this product is great. I work at an agency where we are constantly moving from one project to the next, adding new clients and going after new industries. With meltwater, it is easy to add or remove search terms for almost immediate tracking of client mentions in the news and industry news.
What do you dislike about the product?
We used to rely pretty heavily on the email alerts. Although you can adjust frequency of emails to your liking, the news was often delayed, much like Google News alerts. That being said, you'll still need a more proactive tracking program to catch news as it comes out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater helps a lot with reporting. PR is a fast-paced industry, and any tools that catch news as it comes out is useful and important for metrics and beyond.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Complement this with frequent Google alerts, and you should be set on monitoring. Meltwater catches news quite frequently, but having the two helps with any delay for news that needs to be caught and flagged/shared ASAP. If there's a lot of coverage, you do need to open up a separate window to access all the coverage, which can be a little frustrating when you want to pull a link quickly, but I've never gotten irrelevant news tracked or missed something huge, so that is a big plus.
Sysomos for the Win
What do you like best about the product?
Sysomos is great for diving deeper into followers and those that may have a connection to your cause or business. It's basically a better form of stalking.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the "listening" tools are not as user friendly as one would hope. It took a lot of back and forth with our consultant to understand everything we are able to do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using Sysomos to better understand what our audience wants and how we can edit our content strategy to bring in new audiences based on their likes.
Meltwater for Small Company Just Diving Into PR
What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater provides phenomenal reporting. Additionally, it's a one-stop-shop for all things PR, which is a very convenient approach.
What do you dislike about the product?
They seem to be mostly geared toward bigger companies. As a small company, they brush off a lot of my concerns and recommendations for improvement, which can be very frustrating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are seeing higher visibility with our press releases and are able to engage with relevant reporters and media contacts. We've realized extreme benefits with regard to reporting, specifically compared to Cision. Plus, the platform is much more user-friendly.
Easy to Use
What do you like best about the product?
Compared to other tools I've used, Meltwater is very user friendly and pretty self explanatory after a short introduction to the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't always pull clips from bloggers if they don't have the blogger in their system.

Meltwater helps us easily track media mentions and condenses them to save time.
Comprehensive online media monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is easy to use with multiple functionalities that goes beyond only media monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of ability to gather print coverage within the media.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Media monitoring along with gathering a database of reporters, editors and other influencers, while also utilizing their platform for company newsletters.

It has a great support team that works with you to help solve any problems or issues you are experiencing. The functionality across the board is useful, it is more than just a monitoring tool.

The media database is not all inclusive and New York Times articles are excluded from search results

I get content to share on our social media feeds, updates when the association is in the press and can follow along with topics that are important to us. I also find reporters covering relevant topics and can reach out to them with information.

Sysomos search has ensured I never let my clients down as it is thorough in including every single social mention. It ensures our reports are accurate and delivered to clients in a timely manner, including all relevant information.

Honestly, there is nothing I dislike. Sysomos has been an effective tool every time.
