Average but Cision is better
What do you like best about the product?
It's a good price, if they wouldn't keep raising it, for a good software. It's easy to use, even though the interface is outdated, I can always find what I need. I like how simple it is and how much time I save by not doing manual research.
What do you dislike about the product?
They don't keep contacts up to date and they continue to raise prices even when they don't add any new features or fix the problems we have. I dislike that we are charged for things we don't really care for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's nice to have a variety of media contacts available to you and easy to search for some you've never thought of. If we didn't use a software like this, we wouldn't be able to find contacts nearly as quickly. We are definitely saving time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at Cision as well. I think it's important to look at all your options and what works for your team, rather than just going with what's cheaper. Meltwater is nice, but we went with Cision after about 2 years because it is flexible and up to date - saving us time and money in the long run.
A must have for PR
What do you like best about the product?
A single click gives you access to all the data relevant to a PR professional's day-to-day life
What do you dislike about the product?
It is high time that an online demo facility be made available
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps track media coverage seamlessly across thousands of publications
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is great for your day to day need if you are in the public Relations industry
Senior Account Executive
What do you like best about the product?
I like how strong their digital monitoring is and the interface is very user friendly as far as navigating through the system! Also, their client support is great and they're very responsive to questions or needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
We wish they had better print monitoring for newspapers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to provide our clients with professional, custom media reports for their coverage. We've realized the TV and online monitoring is usually better than our previous vendor.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Realize that the cost is impacted by number of searches you have or need. Understand that they hardly do any print monitoring for newspaper editions. But they have excellent client support, and their online monitoring is really strong.
Meltwater review
What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can easily locate journalists and create mass lists, instead of individually adding their email addresses in.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's difficult to move contacts in between lists. Sometimes the list of journalists come from less-than-stellar sources. Also, sometimes they are categorized incorrectly. At least once we've had an annoyed journalist calling and asking that we stop sending her press releases, as that was not the type of story she covers (despite what Meltwater reported).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is easier to send out mass emails to journalists and news outlets.
Easy to Use Tool for Quick Insights
What do you like best about the product?
SImple interface and excellent customer support. The Sysomos team is always available to answer my questions when something isn't working or I'm not understanding how to use the tool correctly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The system has been down or unable to pull queries a few times which is unfortunate. Of course, this tends to be right when I need to use it!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quick mining of insights for new business, new clients, etc. I work in advertising and it helps us get to a brief quickly and can be used to back up our hypothesis. Just a great way to get a pulse on the consumer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great product for quick insights and similar to others in the market. Sentiment scoring and influencer identification is particularly useful. Product reliability could use some help.
Meltwater Review
What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy the functionality of Meltwater. It is easy to learn and you can easily manipulate it to work best for you and your reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to be able to pull a list of certain types of publications into a spreadsheet format.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our media reports are now very easy in the mornings.
Less robust than Cision
What do you like best about the product?
Simple interface, looks easy to use, lack of clutter on each page
What do you dislike about the product?
Searching for influencers (journalists, writers, bookers, etc) under a certain category and then filtering those results is difficult; filtering media monitoring results is difficult; lack of formatting when sending emails out to influencers
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The emailed media monitoring report sent each day is convenient and has a clean interface, which makes it easier to determine what might be relevant to us and which clips we might want to take action on by sharing or monitoring.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If we had been able to demo the platform with our objectives and purposes in mind, we would have been able to make a far more informed decision. A representative visited our office to demo the software through a demo account on our computers, but we weren't given as much time as we would have liked to peruse the functions. If you are only targeting a few influencers and outlets and are fine with sending out less than 10-20 pitch emails, then Meltwater might work out okay. And if you don't mind being unable to limit your search results very much (i.e. by source, to filter out fake news), then the media monitoring might work well. But we'd like to be able to discover influencers who are OFFICIALLY covering the beats that we're interested in, not just those who have recently written about a subject we want publicity for in passing or just one or two times.
Good monitoring, not so good UX
What do you like best about the product?
it's great for media monitoring across UK and US
What do you dislike about the product?
user experience generally. software is often slow and not responsive. when you export the data, it turns out to be a very old school excel spreadsheet
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Media monitoring
Tracking media coverage and influencers covering keywords you input

Meltwater
What do you like best about the product?
I like the convenience of pulling the reports necessary for business purposes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes there are portions of reports that I need pulled that the service does not offer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are pulling reports to share with board of directors for business purposes.
Sysomos is an adequate tool but is visually clunky.
What do you like best about the product?
The sheer size of the data that we have access to through Sysomos. It's social media analysis (specifically Twitter) is its strongest feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Traditional media data is unreliable and littered with spam and un-useful data sets like press releases. As a coverage tracking tool it is largely useless for this reason and turns me to use TrendKite instead. Visually, Sysomos is way behind its competitors - it hasn't been updated in years and it shows. I would never show clients the graph screen shots or exports. We have design create new visuals because the tool looks so dated and ugly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Conversation analysis to understand and outline what consumers are saying about a particular topic or brand. Also the identification of key influencers discussing a topic or brand.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Trial the product before committing to it. It has access to large quantities of data across platforms but as a tool it is clunky, UX is average at best and the visual outputs are poor.
