Helps me stay on top of my client’s news

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to crate custom queries using advanced keywords.
What do you dislike about the product?
Everything is manual and adding and subtracting names from a list can be tedious. The format doesn’t help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to track current events for my book of 60+ corporate clients. When an acquisition or a product release happens I can learn about it first.

What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater made it easy to find every time our industry was mentioned and stay on top of our reputation, as well as send those articles out to people who needed to know about them. The customer service was easily accessible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, creating search terms was complicated which meant I had to sort through a lot of irrelevant articles. There were also a lot of smaller newspapers that were not included in Meltwater's search, which was difficult since we had branches in many small communities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our upper management wanted to stay informed about issues without spending large portions of their day scanning news sites. Meltwater allowed me to easily create a daily newsletter for them.

Quick and Deep

What do you like best about the product?
It's one of the faster solutions on the market - letting you run complex queries without a whole lot of chug time. The data exports can take a bit longer, but provide much richer data than the dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
Inconsistent customer service - it wasn't always easy to get a hold of our rep or get a sense of what features were becoming available in the future.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rich data into conversation history, key participants, tone, topics and audience share (through their data exports)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The interface of the product is OK. If you want to go deep on their data - be prepared to deal with their data exports vs. their dashboard.

What do you like best about the product?
We have setup our Meltwater client to share media content each morning with our administrators to give them an update daily.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally, content is not related to The University of Toledo.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Media monitoring automation. Prior, members of our staff would have to manually send out this information daily.

Great platform for what you need, not the easiest

What do you like best about the product?
The information Sysomos provides is excellent, from conversation volume to influential personas, to social listening, it's all there and extremely reliable.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's far from the easiest software to understand and navigate. Though they have made updates to their UX, it still needs some love.

Great for Tracking but Sometimes Hard to Filter

What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater is helpful for tracking media hits generally, especially regarding your organization or employees. It's fairly simple to sort through the information, and their newer reporting system is nice looking. Meltwater's social media tracking piece has been hugely helpful to us, especially for making it easier to report on social media engagement.
What do you dislike about the product?
You need some familiarity with the industry to understand what information is valuable and what is not. It's easy to get caught up in their overall reach numbers if you don't know what you're looking at. It can also be hard to interpret those numbers for the C-suite if you don't know what you're doing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are looking to track, for our metrics and goals, how we are being represented in the media and how often we're used as a resource. It's best for tracking how often our original research is being cited in different media outlets. On the social media side, managing, scheduling, and tracking our social posts has been wildly streamlined by Meltwater Engage.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you are clear on how the numbers work for the PR reporting pieces, as things are not always as they seem. Have them walk you through creating dashboards and reports to ease the transition.

Good software, but app needs more work

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it is a good tool for social listening. You can see how many times something is talked about on social media.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the functionality of the mobile app. I prefer to use Meltwater on the desktop because of that. It is harder to filter results on the app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving audience targeting and media trends. We are able to research which allows us to make sure out content is correct for our audience

If the functionailty of the app is not up to your standards, use the desktop option

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate that they can quickly give you any reporter's email address and you can search by beats, by media (radio/print/tv, etc), and you can search by location. that is extremely helpful. i also appreciate that you can keep databases so for example, if i quickly need to send an email to reporters in houston, i have a stack of contacts that i know are reliable.
What do you dislike about the product?
so often the contact information is completely wrong or the person doesn't even work at that station anymore. because of that, I usually have to spend over an hour looking thru the database for each city, unclicking and clicking the reporter's names that are applicable. And what I also hate is that when i click "select all" on the database list-it doesn't click all, not unless you scroll to the bottom of the list!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am solving the "problem" of media pitching. Without meltwater, it wouldn't be nearly as successful. I think that we'd be able to find reporters but it would take so much more time and potentially we couldn't reach out personally.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would first look at other products to see how expensive they are and how up to date their media database is. For thousands of dollars, you should know that the time that you're putting into the product is worth it and will deliver results. Also, their wire service is complete garbage-it does not reach any more people than simply sending out a press release. And their sales staff can be very pushy-like please don't call me-just send me an email!

Good Product But Too Expensive for the Return

What do you like best about the product?
Once they allowed for customizable packages, we were able to get more flexibility with what we needed versus did not use since their product is very robust and we didn't need all the features. Advanced searching for building PR outreach lists was nice, and the web mention alerts were comprehensive.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was priced too high for the actual return for a small/medium sized business. Would be a better fit for large enterprises or agencies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes social scheduling easy (but is really just a white labeled Sprout Social), searching for journalists based on keyword and geography is great.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
They will BADGER you during the sales process. If you aren't prepared to make a decision quickly, wait to reach out to them.
