Great product for PR and marketing
What do you like best about the product?
I like the preset search features. It saves me time and lets me know when our company is being mentioned in the media. It helps me understand what our prospects and clients are doing/talking about too

It takes time to setup all the presets and change them when needed

What do you like best about the product?
Conveniency and Efficient. Everything is in one place. You are able to do multiple function in the marketing/PR Realm, whether it is tracking to finding contacts
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes when searching for contact, when organizing and filtering by "BEAT" I feel like sometimes they aren't organized correctly. Or sometimes they'll be missing contacts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps make everything personal. Sending out mass pitches are a snap with Meltwater, since we you can send out a pitch and it will personalize it to each person!
Horrible Way to Conduct Business - BEWARE of shady business practices
What do you like best about the product?
The media outreach service itself is actually very helpful, however, I don't know if it is worth the negotiated price point of $7,000.
What do you dislike about the product?
The business practice. I was a meltwater customer for a year, and when it came time to talk about my autorenewal for my contract, I asked to not be charged so we could discuss options. I was told that my autorenewal was put on hold by a rep in Miami and even called her supervisor and I was told the same thing. When it came time for me to decide to move forward our company chose to pursue other options as the price point was not in our budget at that time. I was then told that my contract had an auto-renew clause hidden in the terms and conditions and because I did not provide a written cancelation 60 days prior to the date of the autorenewal, even though I was told that they would push this. When I tried to speak to my sales rep and her boss (located in Miami) I was told that they weren't going to lose their jobs to try to fix this for me and I was forced into signing a contract in order to get additional services. If I did not sign the contract, I would be left with minimal services that I was forced into.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was searching for a social monitoring and online listening platform. I also want a social scheduling tool, but Meltwater does not provide this.

Beware of shady sales practices.

We are using the service to look into global publications and have been able to serve clients on a global level
Meltwater allows our University to keep up to date on Alums
What do you like best about the product?
I love that Meltwater gives me the opportunity to get daily digests of articles that use our University name. This allows me to keep up to date on what our Alums are doing. We use Meltwater in conjunction with Team Support. Team Support compiles a daily digest with all articles using Drew University. We go through the articles and add them to the Alums record in our database.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike looking through all of the articles. They are not all pertinent to our University or pertinent to our Alums. With this, sometimes an individual does not write where they graduated from and we miss the article as well. Unfortunately, there is nothing Meltwater can do to fix this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Meltwater, I do not typically lose information about Alums as long as the article mentions that the individual graduated from our institution. This is great to add information to our Alums profiles which is used to solicit them for gifts. It gives our Community information about the individual.

Easy to use and can be tailored to fit your business' needs.

What do you like best about the product?
The large database of media and influencers. this is a great product to send mass pitches through and has a great reporting program.
What do you dislike about the product?
Meltwater does not always have the most updated media contacts and we often have to add in smaller organizations. It often doesn't have the ad value for smaller media groups.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater allows our company to pitch to thousands of people at one time which saves a huge amount of time. It also allows you to create segmented lists to keep campaigns separate.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would choose this product over the other similar software because of the social media analytics and reporting, database, overall reporting and ease of use.
Good platform to monitor news coverage for PR clients
What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater was very helpful in sending daily media monitor reports when I worked at my first public relations agency from 2013-2016, and I used them one for one primary client who was in the news very frequently. The client appreciated the daily updates, and since they were set for early in the morning we were able to relay any news, positive or negative, very quickly. The client often had frequent negative news so that was advantageous to share with the client and work on a holding statement immediately.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, Meltwater often missed a lot of news coverage and so it required that we hone our searches with them very frequently. They were often very receptive to our questions and issues, which we all appreciated but the missed news stories were so frequent that it made it difficult for me to necessarily recommend spending money on this when you could be tracking through another paid platform or free through Google news.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In public relations, sharing news coverage with clients is an essential part of your business with them. Being the first to share news coverage, positive or negative, is very, very important. Meltwater helped track news for this client and ensure we sent it over to them in a timely manner. As I mentioned, there are vast benefits but I do think that these benefits could be realized with other platforms, though I was not the one deciding whether or not to spend budget on it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider all your options for platforms when considering Meltwater. It is an expensive option, and while it could provide value for your clients and your agency, there could be better options. Google news is always a great option, for example!
Deceptive auto-renewal technique
What do you like best about the product?
The interface of Meltwater is very user-friendly and their Dashboard is helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Deceptive auto-renewal clause in their contract which was never communicated by the company nor the Sales Rep who actually throughout the first year of the contract tried to renew our subscription on multiple occasions, indicating that they need our permission to extend the length of the contract.

This is in order to boost the number of results so the end Customer has the feeling of good investment. In the end, your reporting will take much longer as you have to go through a lot of noise news which normally wouldn't appear in there in the first place.

What do you like best about the product?
Of course, the main challenge of this kind of tool is the coverage and I'm impressed by the quality and the efficiency of their listening.
Moreover, their analytics tools are well-though: it's easy to explore the data to find trends and important messages.
Finally, export tools (to pdf and/or ppt) are helpful to create dashboards and media reviews.

Query creation can quickly become complicated, but Linkfluence's teams are there to help.
The interface could be refreshed, and it is not possible to analyze a set of hand selected messages.

Helpful but TERRIBLE customer service
What do you like best about the product?
I like that you can have the program monitor for specific topics and it will alert you when new ones come up that may be of interest to you. It definitely helps you find points of conversation that you wouldn't otherwise be able to find through a traditional media search. I do believe it has some of the best technology for media monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
HORRIBLE customer service. Before I purchased Meltwater, I was receiving multiple calls PER DAY to buy their product. It almost made me not want to purchase the software, but I'd heard from other business professionals that it was worth the money and that they too had experienced multiple calls and bad customer service until they bought in.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was able to solve the issue of knowing what types of coverage our organization was receiving.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take your time and use the demos they provide to you. If you really want to see how this product is going to help your organization, you can also ask them to do a live demo with you and to show you search terms you are interested in. Meltwater's customer service is severely lacking, but the product works well.
