Easy to use, and there is no need to get involved in any tedious deployment process

  • July 24, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I have wanted to delve into the backend process, which is just another whole different universe. Supabase Vector puts such an entire universe into a small planet and gives it to the front-end developer, making it really good.

I use it as my database for authentication for real-time features and a lot of stuff. The tool is literally used for BaaS. If, as a solo developer, I want to start something of my own, and I do not have the resources to afford backend developers, or if I even want to learn about the backend, then Supabase Vector is a great replacement. I don't have to deploy the backend because it already comes as a deployed service on the tool's cloud. The main USP of Supabase Vector is that the API requests are not charged, so they are unlimited.

What needs improvement?

The support for React Native CLI is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required.

There is just one thing wrong with Supabase. In the free plan, if your project is not being used in seven days, then the solution will pause, so it will stop working, causing some stability issues. The tool can extend the period beyond seven days.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Supabase Vector for three to four months. I am a user and customer of the tool.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a six to seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If you are a business building a social media app, there will be thousands of users for every such app. Each user will have a post or something. When multiple users try to hit the like button on your post or try to comment on your post, each of them would be an API request, and Supabase Vector does not charge for them like. The API requests are kind of unlimited. If you compare Supabase Vector to any of the other services like Firebase, AWS, or Azure, all the tools charge per request. From a scalability standpoint, if you are a small-scale startup and you have around 1,00,000 or 2,00,000 users, then Supabase Vector is a perfect choice for you.

I have never heard about any scalability issues in the product.

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used MongoDB and Firebase.

How was the initial setup?

You don't even have to deploy the product. The tool already comes in a deployed form, and it only involves just a few clicks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As per the product's regular pricing plans, the tools are available to users for 20 to 25 USD per month.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I may choose some other product over Supabase Vector. Supabase comes in a deployed form, so I don't have to handle the deployment. Everything in the tool is in-built authentication and real-time functionalities. A lot of stuff is just built, so that is easier to implement and integrate into your software. It almost eliminates 90 percent of the need for having an entire backend team.

What other advice do I have?

The tool is easy to use. I never go for complex stuff. To make your life easier. The simpler a tool is, it is better for me.

The product's challenges revolve around the fact that understanding the solution involves a bit of a learning curve, but it is not a big issue for me. Only if you are trying to integrate the product with Android or iOS apps may you face some issues.

I recommend the product to other people.

I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Provides an ease of setting up security and an effective automatic generation of API documentation

  • May 31, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the product primarily to handle data models and API integrations. It simplifies security setup, API documentation generation, and database management.

What is most valuable?

The product's feature for ease of setting up security and the automatic generation of API documentation has been invaluable. These features expedite development and ensure robust security. The performance reports and real-time notifications also benefit database management and performance tuning.

What needs improvement?

One area for the solution improvement is the inclusion of more sample code in various programming languages, particularly PHP. Expanding the support for complex transactional queries and enhancing scalability features for advanced use cases would also be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Supabase Vector around July of last year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is excellent. I rate it a nine or even higher, as the maintenance and support have been very reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We anticipate around 2,000 Supabase Vector users for our new project.

I rate scalability as a six.

How are customer service and support?

We had an issue during development, and the support team was responsive and helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Firebase and Azure before. We switched to Supabase based on positive community feedback about its development lifecycle benefits and rapid deployment capabilities.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward compared to other products.

Deployment took less than ten minutes, and configuration and setup took about 15 to 20 minutes. It was even quicker for cloud services as it involved subscribing and commissioning the service.

I rate the process an eight and a half.

What about the implementation team?

For smaller projects, one person is sufficient to handle implementation. However, a team of four may be needed to manage backend activities effectively for larger projects with thousands of users, like the one we are currently working on.

What was our ROI?

Supabase has saved us significant costs and development time, which is valuable for startups and existing companies alike.

I rate it a nine in terms of ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's cost is reasonable compared to other solutions. We currently use the standard plan, which costs about $480 annually, and may switch to a full data plan depending on project needs.

I rate the pricing a three out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

The platform's role-level security feature is quite effective for spatial data management. It allows you to define and manage access controls efficiently. Another useful feature is the performance and analytics reporting, which helps you monitor and optimize your database performance. The AI prompts for query assistance are also beneficial, although I haven't used the real-time notifications feature extensively.

The features that have improved data analysis are the performance and tuning tips that Supabase provides. These tips help you optimize queries and functions, which is crucial for handling complex data operations. However, I've noticed that security settings are only sometimes visible in the data definition views, which can be challenging when recreating objects or debugging.

Overall, I rate it an eight.
