Data resilience and mobility enhance operations with effective automation and support
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features in Veeam Data Platform are data resilience and data mobility.
In assessing the platform's ransomware protection, I find Veeam's immutability feature very valuable.
Regarding their role in policy-driven data management, I find that the data qualification within the backup jobs is quite sufficient. At the customer side, we speak about backing up Hyper-V data and unstructured data, and this is mainly what the Veeam Data Platform is focused on. Therefore, this is quite well integrated.
What needs improvement?
The licensing model is currently in improvement, and changing from instance license to Veeam Universal License is a great step. Further improvements could include the logging functionality, which I think should be more granularly adjustable, but in this case, it can be improved anytime.
Regarding additional features expected in the next release to make it even better, most parts are on the way, and the AI integration should be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with Veeam products for almost eight to nine years.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate their technical support eight or nine out of ten. The escalation from first, second to third tier is sometimes very long-lasting, but the resolve rate is quite high.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Regarding the initial setup and configuration, I find it straightforward and it should not be more simplified because users are able to back up most environments within minutes. This is one big advantage of Veeam Data Platform.
What other advice do I have?
Their pricing is reasonable.
The advanced analytics, which are part of the Veeam ONE portfolio, are not currently productively used in optimizing backup operations.
In my assessment of the automation features of Veeam Data Platform, it is greatly usable if implemented correctly, but currently in the customer environment, it is not being used. We have to use the built-in REST API functionality to automate the workflows at the customer side specific to the customer environment. The REST API functionality of both platforms, Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam for 365, is greatly improved over the last years and almost fully usable for automation.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate Veeam Data Platform a nine.

Reliable management and quick recovery enhance operations
What is our primary use case?
For open-source products, I am using OPNsense and email security is handled by Amavis, which is from Linux.
OPNsense is not on the cloud; I have it deployed on-premise.
Apart from Amavis and OPNsense, we don't have other open-source products, especially in the security part, or backup solutions or storages.
For backup processes, I am using Veeam Backup & Replication for the protection of our virtualization and virtual machines.
What is most valuable?
Based on my subjective experience, the greatest part about Veeam Backup & Replication is its fast recovery and easy management.
I often use fast recovery and the Instant Recovery features. I have faced no challenges while using Veeam Backup & Replication; everything worked all the time.
Veeam Backup & Replication is easier to configure and more reliable than UrBackup, which makes it a superior solution.
What needs improvement?
The price is consistently an area for improvement.
It's quite expensive to scale because if we have more machines to secure, we have to buy a greater license and a bigger license, though it's quite easy to scale overall.
I would appreciate seeing some updates with AI functionality or anything AI-related, though I am uncertain if there is a use case for AI in backup.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for backup for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are no glitches or performance issues whatsoever; the solution is very stable. The only issues I encountered were due to the performance of the server, which is not a problem of Veeam Backup & Replication but our own issue.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's quite expensive to scale because if we have more machines to secure, we have to buy a greater license and a bigger license, but it's quite easy to scale overall.
I would rate it eight points for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
I had experience with technical support from Veeam Backup & Replication one time, and it was quick and easy. There was just one component that didn't work right, and we wrote to them, and I think one and a half hours later, we solved the problem.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication support a ten; my experience was very good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was previously using UrBackup.
Veeam Backup & Replication is easier to configure and more reliable than UrBackup, which makes it a better solution.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is relatively easy; it's just about starting the setup, starting the upgrade or installation, and entering your values, your license and so on. Then I install, and it works.
What about the implementation team?
I do the setup myself; I think only the license is expensive, not the setup cost.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I do the setup myself; I think only the license is expensive, not the setup cost.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have experience with other products for backup, but Veeam Backup & Replication is the most reliable.
What other advice do I have?
I use Sophos products in my operations. There is one product called Sophos X-Ops, an Advanced Threat Protection product, but I don't really know this one.
Sophos Central is on the cloud. We don't work with cloud providers. We just have everything we own on-premise.
I don't work with Sophos Virtualization, Security, Sophos Email, Phish Threat, or Network Access Control (NAC) products. All my security is open-source.
It's a part of a Linux server, and the name is Amavis, spelled A-M-A-V-I-S.
We use Veeam Backup & Replication for backup. Apart from Amavis and OPNsense, we don't have other open-source products, especially in the security part, or backup solutions or storages.
We don't use replication, but I know from another work experience that replication of backups with Veeam Backup & Replication works fine.
Veeam Backup & Replication has all the functions I need.
My final rating for Veeam Backup & Replication is 8 out of 10, primarily due to pricing concerns.

Replication and deduplication make data management efficient and secure
What is our primary use case?
Years ago with customers and nowadays, we are using Veeam Backup & Replication in my job. We used to replicate our virtual machines between our data centers and make backup to an external NAS.
We are using the replication functionality to replicate all our machines between data centers. In case of disaster or disaster recovery, we have cross machines, so we could bring up a new scenario in minutes.
We only use Veeam Backup & Replication at the moment and we're not chained to the platform.
What is most valuable?
The features I find most useful in Veeam Backup & Replication are that it's fast, has deduplication, and excellent speed. It's fast, secure, and uses low bandwidth and backup space.
The scalability of backup and replication is effective for our growing data volume. We have been growing from about 50 virtual machines to about 150, and we think we will grow to 200, maybe. It's easy with only buying some more licenses and it's not more difficult than that.
What needs improvement?
What they're doing now in version 13 of Veeam Backup & Replication is not requiring a Windows platform, which is very good. I don't prefer Windows in terms of security. I thought that having a Windows machine running this was not the best for security. I prefer security and resources dedicated to this because of the license and a graphical interface.
I prefer what's now being developed, which can be on a Linux platform with a web interface, instead of the Windows console. I think a web console is easier and more convenient. In version 13 they are implementing this, but I think they have to complete it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup & Replication for about 10 years or so.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
I find Veeam Backup & Replication easy to set up. The deployment of Veeam Backup & Replication took only some hours.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam Backup & Replication is pretty stable these days. From time to time, we have had some problems with snapshots, but now it's not a problem anymore.
I haven't faced any serious challenges with Veeam Backup & Replication.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of backup and replication is effective for our growing data volume. We have been growing from about 50 virtual machines to about 150, and we think we will grow to 200, maybe. It's easy with only buying some more licenses and it's not more difficult than that.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't contacted Veeam support. We always find solutions through the knowledge base.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have tried other solutions before working with Veeam Backup & Replication, but not in my current job.
How was the initial setup?
I find Veeam Backup & Replication easy to set up. The deployment of Veeam Backup & Replication took only some hours.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
For our company, Veeam Backup & Replication is reasonably priced, although it may be expensive for smaller companies depending on some limits.
What other advice do I have?
The features I find most useful in Veeam Backup & Replication are that it's fast, has deduplication, and excellent speed. It's fast, secure, and uses low bandwidth and backup space.
The scalability of backup and replication is effective for our growing data volume. We have been growing from about 50 virtual machines to about 150, and we think we will grow to 200, maybe. It's easy with only buying some more licenses.
I rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

Continuous replication and backup simplify customer service across enterprises of any size
What is our primary use case?
My customers for Veeam Data Platform include enterprise, small, and medium businesses.
What is most valuable?
Veeam Data Platform provides me with the most useful features such as application restore, single file restore, backup and replication, and continuous replication. We utilize these features for management and the customers we serve.
Veeam Data Platform provides features such as immutability and ransomware protection. While we use other applications for ransomware protection, we rely on Veeam Data Platform for encryption.
What needs improvement?
I found that OpenStack could be improved in the tool, as we have a challenge with OpenStack in the backup. OpenStack is something Veeam Data Platform doesn't support, and they haven't indicated that they will support it in the future.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Data Platform for over 11 years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Deploying Veeam Data Platform was easy in setup and deployment. We have deployed it more than a thousand times for ourselves and our customers, taking only a couple of hours for deployment, discovery, and initiating backup.
How are customer service and support?
They respond quickly in most cases. However, in some instances, there is back-and-forth communication between Veeam Data Platform, VMware, and other vendors to identify the source of the problem.
The support is great overall. While most cases are handled perfectly, we have encountered a few challenging cases. I would rate their support an eight or nine out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Veeam Data Platform is more expensive than OpenStack because we pay for it in US dollars, while we pay for OpenStack in Egyptian pounds.
Veeam Data Platform provides benefits worth the money we pay, as we serve it to our customers. As cloud providers, we offer backup as a service to our customers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Commvault is the only competition to Veeam Data Platform in the market, and its only advantage over Veeam Data Platform is OpenStack backup capability.
What other advice do I have?
There are some AI features available. We are working with Copilot for Office 365 and are beginning to explore its use.
We are still working to deploy it integrated with Veeam Data Platform for notifications and to summarize the backup.
Veeam Data Platform is the first recommendation from my company and me, as it's easy to set up, and the portal and management are very straightforward compared to competitors.
I would rate Veeam Data Platform a nine out of ten.
User-friendly platform supports seamless integration and comprehensive backup solutions
What is our primary use case?
My primary use case for Veeam Data Platform is for backup, implementation of failover plans, and backup of data both on-premise and on cloud. I use it for backup Active Directory, backup Office 365, and other similar tasks.
What is most valuable?
All features of Veeam Data Platform, such as backup, immutability, and replication, are highly valuable. It supports the backup of Active Directory and Office 365.
The platform is user-friendly, comprehensive, and compatible with numerous market solutions, including virtualization and bare metal servers.
My organization appreciates its scalability, simple acquisitions of licenses for expansion, and how easily it integrates with different vendors.
What needs improvement?
The database backup process could be improved. It would be beneficial to enhance this feature and also consider the addition of a web interface to increase accessibility.
Additionally, the cost model could be adjusted, particularly the price of licenses, as reducing it by 20% would make it more accessible to a broader range of customers.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have worked with Veeam Data Platform for between two to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are no issues with stability in Veeam Data Platform. It operates smoothly, although some configurations or personalization might require attention.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is quite simple and user-friendly. It involves acquiring additional licenses as needed. Integration with other vendors is also seamless.
How are customer service and support?
I have not had much interaction with Veeam's technical support as I work more closely with sellers. However, from what I understand, Veeam provides good support and I have no complaints.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have also worked a little with Storage Dorado 3000 or Dorado San Protect.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Veeam Data Platform is very easy and user-friendly. On a scale of one to ten, where ten is very easy, I would rate the setup as 7.5 out of ten.
What about the implementation team?
I handle the implementation myself, so there was no external team involved.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing of Veeam Data Platform is based on packs rather than by individual units or users. A reduction of 20% in the current cost would make the solution more attractive to clients.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend potential users of Veeam Data Platform to be aware that it is a user-friendly, all-inclusive solution compatible with a wide range of market solutions, including virtualization and bare metal servers.
I rate the solution eight out of ten overall.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Peace of mind with seamless backup
Veeam B&R is a well made product that we have used for years.
New to Veeam Data Cloud - Use Veeam's Onboarding Team
One key takeaway from our onboarding experience was the difference between fixed and dynamic licensing. We initially started with fixed licensing but quickly realized that dynamic licensing provided significantly more flexibility. With a quick email, our onboarding specialist switched us to dynamic licensing, which offers several advantages:
It allows you to exceed your allocated licenses temporarily and true up later.
It is the only way to ensure new users are automatically backed up.
With the fixed licensing model, new users must be added manually, which can become cumbersome as your organization grows.
So far, our test restores have worked well, reinforcing our confidence in the platform’s reliability.
We migrated to Veeam from another cloud backup provider, primarily due to pricing and familiarity. Veeam’s pricing is more competitive, and since we already use Veeam Backup & Replication, transitioning was seamless. Given our positive experience with Veeam’s support in the past, we expect the same high level of service with Veeam Data Cloud.
Offers detailed reports to users, and it is easy to maintain
What is our primary use case?
I use the solution in my company to monitor the backup status and to plan in areas like capacity planning, such as how much current backup utilization is used. The tool can maybe predict the future trend of the data groups and their growing size.
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable feature is that its reports are detailed compared to other tools. It can integrate with VMware, and it can see VMware's recent status while it can receive alerts for Veeam Backup. The tool can be highly integrated with VMware and other Veeam solutions. Reporting-wise, the product is good. You can choose any templates for your report from the solution's consolidated data.
What needs improvement?
The tool should add more hypervisors inside it, like Hyper-V or Nutanix since it is an area of concern in the solution currently.
I feel that the product's support team needs improvement.
I feel that there are some new features in the new version of the product, which is Veeam ONE 12.1, and it also has some anti-malware functionalities. I have not found the new features in the product to be useful because it has so many false positives. The product needs to be integrated with some antivirus solution so that its new features can be used in a better way.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam ONE for three to four years. My company has a partnership with Veeam ONE.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
So far, my company has not had any issues with the product in terms of stability. We have installed the product and it runs properly without any major issues.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support is satisfactory. I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
My company uses Arcserve and some products from China, like Vinchin. Acronis was also a solution that was used in my company in the past. So far, we found that Veeam ONE is quite good compared to other products. Veeam ONE is balanced in terms of its interface, backup design concepts, and backup infra.
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase was quite straightforward.
One person can manage the product's installation phase.
The solution can be deployed in two to three hours. You just let it run with SQL and some other things. The installation process is quite straightforward. I just follow the installation steps, and it can be done easily.
What was our ROI?
I have seen some time-saving benefits from the use of the product in my country, up to 20 to 30 percent.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I consider that the product's price falls under the middle range category.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is easy to maintain, but so far, we didn't have any major issues with the tool.
Actually, in our organization, we didn't go for any compliance parts with the tool. For our customers, we went for some audit purposes to meet some compliance requirements. Veeam ONE can generate some particular compliance report files from its users' available data.
I rate the tool a nine out of ten.
Has a straightforward migration process and good backup functionalities
How has it helped my organization?
The product has significantly streamlined operations for our clients, simplifying their data management and enhancing protection measures.
What is most valuable?
Nearly all of Veeam's features are beneficial, particularly standard backup functionalities, application-specific backup capabilities, and the ability to create backups in Azure and our data center for disaster recovery purposes.
What needs improvement?
They could improve the product's response times for technical support and enhance support for newer hypervisors.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with Veeam Data Platform for about 11 years now

Once users become familiar with Veeam's operation, scalability is straightforward. There's a learning curve, but it's manageable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support services are good. However, the response time could be better.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In addition to Veeam, we have migrated clients from competitors such as Dell Backup (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager), Spectrum Protect (TSM), and Arcserve to Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
The product migration is generally a straightforward process. We assist with the initial setup as part of our service offerings. Setup times vary based on the environment, but typically, we can complete the initial setup within a day. Additional time may be spent configuring backup policies, discussing recovery point objectives (RPOs), and versioning requirements.
What other advice do I have?
We recommend Veeam to a wide range of businesses, from small enterprises to large corporations. Veeam products are generally user-friendly, although navigating through logs may occasionally be necessary, it's not overly complex.
I rate it an eight.
