Tableau New User

What do you like best about the product?
It's usability - as a beginner it's really helpful to have simple drag and drop capabilities. It also helps us identify what we want to look at, it's acting as a data recorder, identifier and tool to render our data in different ways.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's be great it if was more compatible with exporting into a PDF, I know this takes away from it's clicking options to carve out more data, but it's hard to show a room without a projector. A lot of times we're on the go and only have a computer to help us showcase our data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Identifying our portfolio trends so we can make better informed decision about how to give grant money.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Talk with your account manager when you need help trouble shooting. And don't forget to use the demos on demand, and visit the gallery to see what companies like yours are using.

Investment challenges for smaller units

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Visually, it appears to have lots of bells and whistles, which it does. It's a very engaged way to examine the relationships between data, which is crucial for examining college student success. The ability to select and deselect options to slice and dice the data puts quite a bit of power at your fingertips.
What do you dislike about the product?
After experiencing a demo, my staff and I were certainly enamored, but soon afterwards we realized that the learning curve and time needed to get data established into the product would require a greater amount of human resources than we bargained for. For a small assessment unit like mine, it would require an unreasonable amount of time to start using the product. The price was also a big deterrent.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We continuously seek to engage data in a more sophisticated manner. It's also critical for us to have data housed and accessible to a core working group and/or key stakeholders that helps them answer some of their own questions, therefore reserving our talents for deeper dive analyses as needed. The visual and dynamic utility of the tool is also desirable based on our organizational needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
As long as you have the resources (people power) required to initiate the start-up process and have someone that can be engaged with the tool in an ongoing manner, then this tool could certainly meet one's organizational needs.

Tableau is amazing

What do you like best about the product?
I love the usability of Tableau. You do not need to be a data scientist or have familiarity with databases to use tableau. For medium level Excel users - Tableau makes your data into a glorified pivot table, with added depth, insights and way more usability and functionality than Excel.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm still fairly new to Tableau - so I need to dig a bit deeper - but sharing datasets is currently a bit confusing and looks like it requires a separate subscription for Tableau Server, which doesn't make sense.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am easily able to analyze prospects affiliate programs, paid adwords effectiveness, as well as geographical trends sales data trends for our B2B clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking for a business intelligence / insights solutions. Tableau is a great place to start. Their training sample workbooks will get you up and going in no time and the usability and functionality is way better than fumbling around with Excel spreadsheets.

Tableau leaves much to be desired

  • January 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It helps keep everything organized in terms of current quarter pipeline, close dates, what stage of the sales cycle we're at, etc...
What do you dislike about the product?
It is extremely slow. Having multiple tabs open makes it near impossible to get something done quickly. A refresh in the middle of a presentation taking 5 minutes is not a good look.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sales organization and forecasting. We have been able to keep forecasting within 10% of the actual end game for our quarter on a consistent basis.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you have is customized to your needs specifically so you can run reports that make sense for you.

Amazing tool that all companies should use

  • January 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Beautiful, user friendly interface for anyone of any level to use. Plenty of database integrations and plenty of tools to slice and dice data as you please.
What do you dislike about the product?
Building out very custom reporting depending on types of data. Some of the pre-determined charts and graphs don't quite cover what we need so would love to see a little more customization on the visual front. Templates for certain types of reports would be nice to use (some sort of auto-create report would be helpful).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The most common challenge is teaching non-technical teams the stories behind our data and how we assess / analyze them. It's hard giving numbers and their fluctuations when people can't SEE them. Tableau is incredible because it draws out the changes and people understand the next steps better.
