Step Up Your Data Viz Game with Tableau
What do you like best about the product?
Tableau makes your data analytics BEAUTIFUL. Whether you work in operations, finance, business, or another department, if your organization buys into Tableau the results can be fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
The hardest part of Tableau - like with any other rollout of a new software to a company - is user adoption. Tableau offers many resources to get staff trained in Tableau, but ultimately there will need to be early adopters in your organization who embrace a culture of beautiful data analytics. Also the differences between Tableau Server and Tableau Desktop can be difficult to work through if you have both users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We primarily used Tableau to take our data visualizations using data from large administrative data sets to the next level.
Easy to create data source
What do you like best about the product?
I love the ease of using TAbleau and the quick, accurate data that it provides.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because of internal security there are more steps to download the workbook yielding more time consuming to get the reports needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau allows me to give my customers accurate student data that is easy to interpret. This benefit allows customers to see the value in the program that I offer.
Brillant Visualization tool
What do you like best about the product?
Tableau organizes data in a real time beautiful dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tableau is not easily set up. It requires configuration and Salesforce knowledge on the front end.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We will be giving our sales team visibility into their conversion rates.
Great Visualization Tool
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use interface and has great reporting features, great for big data as well. Even if you do need strong analytics, it has very useful partnerships and integration with other software packages.
What do you dislike about the product?
It isn't very strong in its analytics, named for predictive analysis, however for basic functions it does a great job, far better option than Excel if you're going to be dealing with lots of data, especially if that data is from different sources as it can run joins across tables.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Tableau for reporting views of candidates for various job positions we have open. The self-service aspect is great as users can adjust the view to their needs. And creating the visualizations themselves is very easy to do and much more efficient visually appealing than Excel most of the time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is great for creating reports of existing data if you are not in need of strong analytics, especially for predictive analysis. However if you have that data available, it will be excellent in visualizing it
Very powerful tool for creating stunning visualizations
What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy tableau because it is very powerful, and you can create a wide variety of visualizations using your data.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a bit complicated to figure out at first, especially if you are new to working with data. Also embedding charts to Wordpress takes quite a bit of work to figure out how to do it as the given embed code doesn't work. You will spend an hour or two googling the right solution. (HINT: use an iframe)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Tableau Desktop to create visualizations for blog articles that we use for SEO and link building. I think the professional look of the finished product definitely makes this a strong tool for enhancing stories.
Beautiful Data Visualization Tool
What do you like best about the product?
I like how nice the data visualization looks. Excellent for presentation and easily understood.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that some tasks can be a little complicated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am solving how to visualize my data. I realized the benefit of making a picture from your data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Better for graphing than Excel.
Powerful but not flawless
What do you like best about the product?
The table calculation is really powerful and convenient. Calculated Field and Parameters are also very useful. This is much better than Google Dashboard. With these features, SQL queries can be simplified and let Tableau do the rest of the job.
What do you dislike about the product?
Once the tab name is changed and uploaded to the server, the previous link will break. Compared to excel, it lacks the flexibility to make pretty front. When I search for specific functionality usages, the tableau community or help page sometimes show very old pages and those pages never get updated.
When putting multiple sheets in dashboard, the shape or the length of the container won't adjust according to the the length of the data rows returned.
When switch data source in one sheet, all other sheets that use same data source will also be changed.
The integration with R is not that powerful. A lot of useful visualization or analysis functions in R are not support in Tableau.
The subscription feature can be improved so that users will not get report if anomaly is detected in the data.
The integration with presto is not good. It works fine in desktop but when the report is uploaded to server there will sometimes be an error message and users can't open the report on server.

Tableau Desktop can help to provide Customized Business Report. It can also help to visualize the data without using R or python. Very convenient tool to explore the data at early stage of analysis.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Tableau Report can be very customized whether for daily reporting or for adhoc analysis.
It's really become the industry standard for distributing reports
What do you like best about the product?
Customizable
Easy to use interface

What do you dislike about the product?
Large dashboards are still slow to display
The relationship between desktop and server is still iffy
The relationship between desktop and server is still iffy
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The creation and distribution of dashboards
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The learning curve is low. Still needs some work though.
Great data visualization features but expensive
What do you like best about the product?
The map features are easy to use and make nice visuals. There are many different presentation options. A lot of things are easy with drag and drop functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
Formatting font, color, and size is not intuitive. It can be hard to navigate between different data sources. I wish that you could delete records and reorder data with custom SQL.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using Tableau to display information that gets updated daily in SQL Server Management Studio. Tableau allows me to customize my presentations better than pivot tables.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Tableau can be used with little SQL knowledge but is more powerful with calculated fields using SQL.
