Good visualization tool but a bit of a learning curve
What do you like best about the product?
Tableau is a very powerful visualization tool. I've always been able to figure out a way to have it meet my needs. There's a large user community and plenty of resources available to help users figure out how to get things done.
What do you dislike about the product?
Despite using the tool extensive in my graduate degree program and using it for several work projects, I still haven't "mastered" the tool. I wish more support and help options were integrated directly into the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau allows us to extract insights from data. I really like how I can upload out viz to Tableau Public and allow share it.

Using Tableau is well worth the learning curve.

Really impressive looking reports and easy to navigate
What do you like best about the product?
The charts and graphs come formatted and you don't need to spend a lot of time formatting. Once you have the data you can actually use it to present your finding or do analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are limitations what can be done with the data within Tableau; some limitation on the formatting; Also learning curve to learn yet another data visualization tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Financial reporting to senior management; monthly and quarterly report distribution to mid level managers. We use to present budgets, goals and past year success; Multiple scorecards and KPI Reports. We also distribute the detail level data along with the report if there are questions about data elements not displayed in the reports.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you understand how much work you need to put in the data before assuming everything will look great. You need to have the data in a usable format in order to use it. Great if you are switching from Excel or Access but not if you think this will be magic and require no work.

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau makes it easy to take my data, combine it with other data, and create a visualization that really tells a story. There are so many things that are easy to see in a visualization of the data that are very difficult to see in the raw data. Tableau allows me to easily create complex filters so that I can hone in on just the data I need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Navigating a visualization isn't as intuitive as it could be. One of our visualization is a map and Google maps has much better navigation. I wish there was an easy way to overlay a scale onto a map so distances between point could be calculated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We map sales data to determine under served areas based on population densities, and we all use the map to locate customers near a prospect's location.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have data in Excel that you need to quickly and easily analyze with capabilities beyond those found in Excel, then Tableau Desktop would be a good fit for you.

Easy and Effective
What do you like best about the product?
I liked that the program was simple and came with many learning tools. There were lots of options to display the graphs and process the data and makes it easy to use even without a technology background.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be better if there were more features to process data

Minimizing the data and displaying it in ways that are better for us and the client to read.

It would be nice to have more flexibility when resizing visuals and using Tableau create PDF reports.

What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility of visualizations, complex user permissions including row-based security, simple cloud hosting option, lots of supported data-sources, tableau prep provides good data cleaning and organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tableau prep cannot be scheduled, steep learning curve for new users, no good interface for creating calculations, cannot create user-defined functions, sometimes difficult to determine what needs to be done to create the view you’re looking for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Live-updating reports, visualizations connected directly to data source, bypassing the need for exporting to excel.
