Great for Automatic Updates of Workbooks
What do you like best about the product?
If you have a workbook that you use for analytics that has been designed the way you like and don't want to make frequent changes to, putting it on tableau server allows you to have the workbook auto-update overnight so your data is always current!
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the view features are suppressed, so for example you can't make changes to the view, add filters, etc. within server. You are required to download the workbook to your desktop, make the changes and then re-upload to server. Also if you aren't showing a filter in your view, you won't see what is filtered out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use several workbooks for daily analytics and these are handy to have updating on server every night so the data is up-to-date in the morning. We also like the fact that if there are any failures with the updating process, tableau server sends an email to let us know that the failure occurred.
Incredibly easy and powerful

No prior knowledge about business intelligence or data analytics is required. Incredibly easy for self learning. Visualy super attractive dashboards

With big amounts of data requieres high computer resources

One of the best tools to monitor KPIs so that you can analyze and make decisions accordingly on your business objectives and impact areas to improve financial strength of the company.
High-level data visualizations for the amateur
What do you like best about the product?
Click and drag interface makes it easy to obtain complex visualizations even for an amateur programmer. Interactivity with visualizations is a big plus. Accessibility of online video tutorials served as a good starting place to learn -- I haven't had/needed any further formal training.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price makes it prohibitive to share with some users who are not developers. Tableau Reader is a weak substitute (possibly by design). Tableau is a fair skill to have right now if you don't plan to deepen your data science/analytic skills further in your career, but may be surpassed by other coding languages in the future (R, Python) by data science practitioners.

Data visualization problems, auto-refreshed dashboards and summaries

Good tool to learn if you are somewhat peripheral to data science work -- data scientists or predictive modelers are likelier to code in scripting languages such as R and Python to produce visualizations.

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau provides a easy to use interface for creating data visualizations. The software enables users to create informative graphs and maps, with minimal effort.
What do you dislike about the product?
The software could provide more statistical functionality on top of the data visualization functionality.

Creating images for users to support statistical analyses and recommendations.

Make sure you know how to clean data in order to make the most of it in Tableau.
Great Presentation and Data Tool
What do you like best about the product?
Having used Tableau for about a year, i'm amazed at the things it can do with data. I've been able to take ugly datasets and turn it into something that is easily comprehensible to the end user.
What do you dislike about the product?
I know that SAS and Tableau are "competitors" in a sense, but I wish there was an easy way to directly connect from SAS to Tableau to have live connections as data continually updates
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm able to answer ad hoc questions with ease and present them in a way that is beneficial and helpful for the end user. Rather than putting everything in excel, i can create multiple views for people based on the best way they read data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a shot, you will be amazed at what you can do with your data and how easy it is to create a final output.

Unlike other visualizing tools, unlimited flexibility for data manipulation of raw data.

tools and options are sometimes not clear for the user. could be made more userfriendly

Tableau Server - Salesrep
What do you like best about the product?
How customizable the reporting tool is. The tableau team built the sales team a completely customized dashboard showing every data point we needed in an easy to read chart. By clicking the chart you get all relevant data that populated the chart. This tool is pertinent to my daily work.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally the server will not auto populate the data and someone will need to go in to manually update it. This frequently happens on the last day of the month where the data is most crucial to the sales team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The data and analytics capabilities of the the Tableau server has dramatically changed the way we sell. We can now track every goal, large and small, how we are performing, and most importantly how individual customers are performing. This allows us to have a more targeted and effective approach.
