No noise - just actionable data
What do you like best about the product?
What I like the most is that upon installation and configuration, we immediately got actionable data that gave us valuable insight into our SQL estate. This allowed us to immediately resolve issues that hadn't been seen before. We can see our entire estate health in a single pane instead of having to drill down on each machine to find out what is going on. Alerts are meaningful and allow us to make changes at a granular level, not just global settings, but down to the machine or database, which is critical for us so that we're not just getting a lot of meaningless noise. Query plans, execution plans, and deadlock events are rich with detail. Redgate has built a lot of custom metrics, but you can also build your own using SQL statements. Integration with REST and Powershell are also a big plus for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Love the integration with VMWare, which has been really helpful for us. Hope that Redgate will also consider adding integration with Microsoft Stack HCI and AVDs, as we are transitioning many machines to this technology.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is giving us actual, actionable data, based on our company's needs. When we get an alert, we know it is not a false alarm or some vague reference for which there is little to no documentation for us to investigate. We also get real-time resource metrics, SQL metrics (including top queries, waits and sprocs), blocking processes, robust AG metrics, failed jobs, backup history across the estate, and user permissions. All of these data points allow us to immediately and proactively resolve issues which, in turn, allow us to focus effort on other time-sensitive business projects.

RedGate Monitor lack of customization feature for graph reporting purposes. It also lacks of the user permission features on separating user to allow for viewing different group of servers.

SQLMonitor is an invaluable tool in managing all my SQL Servers and have used it for years
What do you like best about the product?
I'm extremely impressed with Redgate SQL Monitor and how it has transformed my ability to oversee and manage our SQL Server environment. What I like best is its comprehensive and intuitive insight into the health and performance of my SQL Servers. The product's ease of use is a significant advantage; its interface is highly intuitive, making it simple to navigate and extract valuable information.
The product provides a remarkably useful overview of the "state" of all our instances, allowing me to quickly identify any potential issues at a glance. This high-level visibility is invaluable for proactive monitoring. We use it daily, which speaks volumes about its indispensability in our routine operations.
Beyond the initial overview, SQL Monitor truly shines when it comes to troubleshooting. Its ability to let me "dig down further when there is an issue" is a game-changer. The detailed metrics and drill-down capabilities mean I can swiftly pinpoint the root cause of performance bottlenecks or other problems, significantly reducing resolution times. It's a powerful tool that empowers me to maintain optimal SQL Server performance and stability.
Ease of implementation was also straightforward, allowing us to get up and running quickly. Furthermore, the customer support has been excellent; I've consistently experienced good response times and effective resolutions to any queries or issues in the past.
I am both an administrator and a user

What do you dislike about the product?
While generally very satisfied, I do sometimes find the web GUI a bit slow. However, I suspect this could be a limitation of the underlying virtual machine infrastructure rather than an inherent flaw in the software itself.
Regarding ease of integration, I would appreciate more transparency or documentation that provides a clearer understanding of the underlying tables in the SQL database that supports SQL Monitor. This would be beneficial for advanced custom reporting or deeper integration efforts.

Monitor is a great tool for watching your databse when you dont have the sdtaff to do it
What do you like best about the product?
I like the email notifications and that I can create my own
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the customer notifications would have the ability to send better content in the emails
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is notify me of issues that I do not have time to watch for with my other non-DBA duties
Redgate SQL Monitor
What do you like best about the product?
The best thing I like about Redgate Monitor is it's ease of use and the great Technical Support.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the last monitoring software I had, there was a "fix it" button that is not present in Redgate Monitor. I also don't like the update process. I've had to two since I've had the product and not one has gone without problems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I haven't had any problems that Redgate Monitor has help me solve.
Average out of the box -- Better with available monitor addon library
What do you like best about the product?
Once you get used to the layout and where various details are located, most of what you might need on a daily basis is readily available. There is a good library of additional monitoring metrics/triggers that really add value to what comes out of the box.
What do you dislike about the product?
The "security modes" that it comes with are very limited. Increased flexibility would be great. We have a "non-standard" installation as a result of the lack of flexibility on this front. Everything works just fine just added complexity to our installation to accommodate the deficiency
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I tend to focus on performance issues, environment stability/uptime and changes to the environment
Detailed and useful monitoring system
What do you like best about the product?
The breadth of monitoring stats really helps track down issues and backtrack through events.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes you can get flooded with notifications, and lose information.
