Using intuitive UI and UX features enables effective marketing report visualizations, and the alerting system supports timely KPI monitoring

  • April 02, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Currently, our company is using ThoughtSpot for marketing reporting. We build reports based on the tables in the cloud, utilizing the outlet views for ThoughtSpot, which then visualizes them. The system includes filters, aggregation levels, time periods, and a lot of marketing KPIs, such as coupon views and incentivized spend.

What is most valuable?

I very much like the UI and UX of ThoughtSpot. The visualization and user experience are very nice. They frequently add new features, and my favorite is the alerting system that allows you to set up alerts on the KPIs. This alerting feature is very beneficial for our company at the moment, and we use it extensively. Additionally, ThoughtSpot is much easier to work with and maintain than other BI solutions, and it significantly reduces costs related to manual labor.

What needs improvement?

There are a few areas where ThoughtSpot could improve. A crucial feature we needed is missing, which involves restricting views of certain KPIs when users select conflicting parameters. We had to create a workaround, which impacted performance by loading pinboards slowly. Disabling drill-down features without affecting sorting in tables is another issue. Also, the process to push new feature requests is lengthy and requires a lot of upvotes, even if you have dedicated support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for a year and a half now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had a situation where a missing ThoughtSpot feature required us to implement a workaround. This workaround consumed a lot of resources and led to reduced performance, with pinboards loading for approximately two minutes for each filter criterion. We had to add extra resources to resolve this issue, which increased our costs significantly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I do find ThoughtSpot scalable. There are so many opportunities for them to implement additional features.

How are customer service and support?

I find ThoughtSpot's technical support to be quick with responses, but they are not always helpful. We have dedicated support contacts for our company, but pushing through features we need requires long processes and upvotes on their website despite the support. Overall, I would rate the technical support as six out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In my personal experience, I have worked with Power BI from Microsoft and a custom solution called Qlik for reporting. There was also another custom solution called GetHandsome, which no longer exists.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup takes time to understand, but there was nothing extremely complex or complicated.

What was our ROI?

While there is no straightforward way to calculate the ROI of ThoughtSpot, it reduces costs by minimizing the manual labor required for reporting.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is on the higher end but reasonable for what ThoughtSpot offers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have worked with Power BI and a custom reporting solution called Qlik.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate ThoughtSpot as an eight out of ten. I recommend it because it is easy, clean, and nice to work with, despite some rules to consider. It is easier to work with compared to Power BI and does not require a complex skill set to create visualizations. Based on my experience, I would rate the product an overall eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to analyze data without needing to know sql. I can just type a question and get charts or tables right away. It’s really fast and saves me from waiting on reports.
Another thing I like is how interactive everything is. If I need to dig deeper, I can click on the data and explore more without starting over. It makes business intelligence and analytics simple and quick.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some advanced analytics need extra setup, and it takes a bit to learn all the features. But once you get used to it, its really powerful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
ThoughtSpot makes it easy to find insights without waiting for reports or needing technical skills.

Seamless integration with external systems and effective dashboard management enhance productivity

  • February 13, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use ThoughtSpot for our BI internal use cases at Zoomin software. I mainly developed models for go-to-market, HR, product teams, and customer success.

What is most valuable?

The main core of ThoughtSpot is to create models, connect data pipelines, and create business models and dashboards on top of them. I often use connections to external systems like syncing information with Salesforce or exporting data to spreadsheets. I started to review the AI capabilities of ThoughtSpot but terminated my work with it due to our company's acquisition by Salesforce.

What needs improvement?

I encountered limitations mainly around UI and dashboard configuration. The widgets are simple with limited flexibility or customization. I would like more customization options.

Additionally, handling governance when there are many models and dashboards is complex. There is no way to organize assets by business unit, only a list with tags, which is not convenient.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for a little bit less than three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is very important, and ThoughtSpot performs well. The upgrades are smooth with no downtime, which is super important.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate ThoughtSpot as eight out of ten in scalability. The platform does not have technical problems with scaling data or connections, but governance can become an issue with many dashboards or models.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are not good. I stopped opening tickets due to insufficient and untimely responses. The questions asked were often unrelated to the problem and not helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I used Sisense and maintained both Sisense and ThoughtSpot. I did not switch, rather used them concurrently.

How was the initial setup?

I was not part of the initial setup. My first time working with ThoughtSpot was complicated due to the TML feature and security rules, which were not intuitive.

What was our ROI?

We did not have a lot of users, so there was no significant revenue return. However, we saved time for some personnel due to the data warehouse setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

ThoughtSpot is expensive. When compared with Tableau and Sisense, it is around seven or eight on the expense scale.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was not involved in the decision-making process, however, two additional tools were evaluated before choosing ThoughtSpot.

What other advice do I have?

My overall rating for ThoughtSpot is eight out of ten.

I don't have specific advice or recommendations. It is one of many tools on the market.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Creates user-friendly analysis environments for large datasets

  • February 05, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use ThoughtSpot as one of the visualization tools. I mainly create some live boards and provide access to the data sources and worksheets to users so they can create their own analyses and answers as required.

What is most valuable?

The tool is user-friendly for the end users. It is primarily a search-based tool. Users do not need a technical background to work directly on the dataset.

Its compatibility with most databases, including the latest from FlexMovely and Redshift, allows users to create joins and worksheets easily. ThoughtSpot is fast, even with one to ten terabytes of data.

What needs improvement?

The visualization customization needs improvement. Currently, it is not as customizable as the options available on Power BI or Tableau. It mainly offers basic chart options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for more than four years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product is really good. I use it primarily for large datasets, and it performs faster than regular data visualization tools such as Power BI, which has limits on dataset size.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is flexible but not as advanced as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker, which have separate tools for preparation, customization, and storytelling.

How are customer service and support?

The support team gets a six out of ten. They are not as proactive. The knowledge base for ThoughtSpot is less robust compared to others.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. It supports compatibility with most databases, making it easy to bring data from any database, create joins, and develop worksheets.

What other advice do I have?

It's a great tool for analyzing large datasets. For someone new to ThoughtSpot, it is efficient for analysis tasks that involve large amounts of data.

Overall, I would give it a rating of eight out of ten.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

ThoughtSpot as embedded product

  • November 18, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UI is very sleek and modern. There is some great funtionality and the data visualizations can empower the user to discover more and find the answers to their own questions. The technology behind it is constantly being worked on and new releases are coming out consistently. Implementation was fairly straighforward, there are some nuances. Overall it was pretty easy to integrate with our main product. My Account Executive has been amazing to work with and goes the extra mile to answer any questions or help find a solution to any challenge we are having.
What do you dislike about the product?
The functionality and interactivity inside each data tile is not as intuitive as expected. There are some limitations with their existing UI that can be challenging and unable to be modified. This can be a challenge when embedding the product that ideally needs to look/ feel like our product. There are some technical constraints with data sets. If you are using any sort of data integration outside of a data warehouse, be sure to work closely with the ThoughtSpot engineers to ensure compatibilty. Overall a great product with some room to improve on their embedded experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using an embedded experience allowed us to go-to-market faster and empower our users to answer data questions and empower users to eplore their data more. The funcationality can really help users who are not data experts feel successful.
