Directory as a Service in Cloud

  • February 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With JumpCloud you can simply replace the Windows Active Directory and help you save additional cost for infrastructure and installation of multiple Domain controllers in your environment. JumpCloud provides Directory as a Service solution, which helps manage and connect number of users to their respective resources. Jumpcloud can be integrated with office365 as well. Also provide Single sign on capabilities. Jumpcloud also focuses on security providing multi-factor authentication to users. Jumpcloud can be implemented anywhere, on cloud or on premise.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some security features are still required as the active directory provides through group policies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
JumpCloud helps simplify problems like enforcing security policies, managing access with single view. JumpCloud provides better management of devices compared to other alternatives.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
JumpCloud is easy to deploy and administer, I would recommend to use JumpCloud for Directory Services needs.

Good alternative to Active Directory for Macs

  • February 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We are 100% Mac based and were looking for a better, more lightweight alternative to Active Directory or Azure AD. JumpCloud was easy to setup and deploy. It syncs accounts with Office365 where our email and calendaring reside. Also allows us to easily manage compliance settings on laptops, like enabling lock screens, drive encryption, and firewalls.
What do you dislike about the product?
Deploying software like endpoint AV could be easier. Also, there have been hiccups keeping user passwords in sync with the local Keychain and FileVault, resulting in users getting locked out of their systems on occasion. I think these issues have been largely addressed in recent months, but we still have the occasional problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were looking for central management of our corporate laptops to meet security compliance obligations as well as ease IT burden. We were also looking for a way to share laptop, wifi and corporate email account credentials for our users. JumpCloud generally does this well, originally at a pretty low cost although they have recently gotten significantly more expensive.

Directory-as-a-Service at its best, magical.

  • February 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of use and setup. New features are rapidly introduced to address customer concerns and the latest security trends. The Customer Support is excellent.
What do you dislike about the product?
The 2FA is not persistent. Systems do not ask for 2FA when a user barely locks his/her system. 2FA is only prompted for after a system restart or shutdown
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Endpoint Access Management
Multifactor Authentication
Directory Services
Password Management
Windows Update Management
Wireless Access Point Management (Radius Server)

Perfect soluton for easy to implement IT systems management

  • February 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use of Jumpcloud and setting up your office equipment the best thing about this service. Being able to add users with the ease of a click to shared machines, or adding new staff to your office Wifi, or making sure you have the best policies in place to keep your machine secure. JumpCloud is by far the best solution for those smaller businesses that don't have the time or the budget for a dedicated IT team
What do you dislike about the product?
Now that you can deploy apps from the Mac AppStore directly to the machines, there's very little to dislike. The one remaining thing for me would be an easy way to install custom apps. Once there is that ability, I don't see the need for any alternatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
DEP of our Apple Machines, setting up secure policies with screen locks and Filevault (with keeping the keys in escrow so we can easily restore), and having authenticated Wifi for our users is just the beginning.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get in touch with their support and sales team. Their support in getting you up and running is second to none in this industry

JumpCloud is a Pretty Promising Replacement for Active Directory

  • February 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What won me over to JumpCloud was the simple fact that I could have over 5 user accounts for free. I just realized that now it is up to 10 users. Second to that is the price that seems better than MS AD DS.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not much that I don't like about JumpCloud other than the fact that it seems to be addressing those who have used AD before.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have not fully implemented JumpCloud in my production environment, but I am looking forward to being able to manage logins in one place without the exorbitant cost of managing an AD server.

What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing so far. It seems to work for companies of small and large sizes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to support small businesses that are using IT support for the first time during the covid restrictions and having users working remotely for the first time.

Perfect for SMB and SOHO

  • February 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Unlike other SSO providers, Jumpcloud has a very generous policy regarding full-featured use for small business: up to 10 registered users are free! This can't be overstated for small development shops and solo proprietor contracting shops - who will go out and sing Jumpcloud's praises. The product is easy to set up and configure, with well-documented HOWTOs for just about any SaaS platform you can imagine. Once configured, it's very much set-and-forget: the agent updates itself on most operating systems.

There have been quite a lot of new features in Jumpcloud only in the last year - many of them to improve remote device management, which makes sense with the massive shift to WFH during the pandemic. I've taken advantage, especially of the expanded security scanning capabilities. In addition to formerly almost excusively managing Windows systems, it's good to haven single pane now that I've added Macs, but also Linux machine as well as iOS devices.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are still features missing that some of the other providers like Okta have, which make things like multi-account access to AWS and similar a bit of a pain.

Since writing this, many new features have been added but unfortunately this one is still an issue. One example is allowing assignment of multiple AWS profiles to a single user: in Okta it's possible why having grouped profiles, across IAM roles and AWS accounts, which will then appear as a menu at login. In JumpCloud I have to either create multiple applications, distinguished only by their assigned profile, and then assign multiple ones to a user. While also remembering to name them appropriately so they don't cause confusion.

Finally, there are still issues with container tabs in Firefox, which causes multiple tabs to be opened during login to AWS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Use it mostly for centralised policy management for Windows MacOS and Linux and SSO with Azure without going full-on "give Microsoft everything". Also, SSO to AWS.
