Versatile Platform

  • February 05, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama's basic platform provides a simple platform that enables little trianing for a user to get started and to be productive using the tool to capture requirements, design, and other program level information. Customer support is also stellar. It is nice having a human to talk to, and the responses are timely and reguarly resolve open questions, and comments. Standing up the platform is straight forward, the tool is robust in its application, and enables integration of multiple projects to drive a connected digital model.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a lot of great capabilities with Jama, however the "a la carte" pricing model to add basic features to enable requirement import/export (i.e., ReqIf), Jama Advisory, and Jama Interconnect should be part of the basic fee structure, rather than individauls pricing based on the number of specific licenses. These featuers help to differentiate from competitators and it would be appreciated if some of these featuers would be included, especially for companies that do not have blockbuster budgets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ultimatley, Jama is being use as a tool to enable certification of our product against stringent regulatory requirements. The tool enables the connection of disparate data into a connected and coherent digital model, with immeidate feedback regarding change impact.

Jama Connect facilitates product development, transparency, and stakeholder alignment

  • October 11, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect has allowed me to organize and structure projects in ways that are flexible to the needs of my organization. With Jama Connect, it is straightforward to establish the project hierarchy and the relationships between the different engineering artifacts so stakeholders can easily view and understand the full scope and contents of the project.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest issue I have encountered using Jama Connect has been with the export templates. Often, there have been issues with the formatting of the exported documents and items that had to be manually corrected, and it has been difficult to get the templates customized perfectly to the standards of my organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project organization - Jama Connect allows me to organize projects in ways that work for my organization, from user needs, to system requirements, to software and hardware requirements, to design specifications, to test cases. It also allows for easy grouping of related items into folders and subfolders. I've found that the more organized a project is, the easier it is for the various stakeholders to understand the project scope and thereby move through the development process more quickly and efficiently.
Traceability - Jama Connect allows me to link related items together and not only generate a trace matrix for the entire project, but also view the live traceability of items. This helps identify any gaps in traceability during project development and make sure the project hierarchy is complete. The customizable dashboard widgets also make it easy to see project status at a glance in terms of which items are not yet traced to parent or child items.
Reviews - Jama Connect's review feature facilitates the review process for requirements and other engineering artifacts by allowing cross-functional stakeholders to log in and review a set of requirements or engineering artifacts on their own time, approve or reject (or just marked 'reviewed') and leave feedback. This improves the product development team's awareness of the contents of the review and leads to improved requirements and other engineering artifact content. It also minimizes churn when attempting to release documents within the organization's document control system by virtue of getting preliminary approval in Jama from all required approvers.
Document generation - As the source of truth for product development projects, Jama makes it easy to generate and update design history file documents without editing the documents themselves, which can take a significant amount of time and lead to errors.

Jama Connect Review

  • September 12, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Review Center is very useful to promote collaboration and store historical data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Item Type definitions apply across the whole database as opposed to individual projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The re-use and synchronization feature will save us considerable effort and improve quality of our requirements once it is fully implemented.

Very efficient data driven tool for RM and RBE

  • August 22, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect is a highly intuitive software solution for Requirement Management (RM) and Requirement Based Engineering (RBE). As such, it is used to manage the complexity of requirements-driven system development. With the tool, it is possible to represent requirements from any number of stakeholders at the hierarchical levels necessary for the project - and, almost more importantly, to link them together. The administrator of the tool is able to tailor the tool to the needs of the projects in an equally intuitive and easy-to-learn way, to reuse content, to control its version, to review and much more. For our team, the introduction of the tool into our toolchain is an early Christmas present that simplifies our work enormously in many aspects of our daily business.
What do you dislike about the product?
The advantage of Jama Connect is definitely the continuous development of the already well-functioning tool. As such, however, some functions are only introduced and improved iteratively. However, as a system development is not a matter of a few days, we look forward to the introduction of further functions that will make life even easier.
However, our current negative point would like to be mentioned. Reporting by means of a Word template is easy to do. The context-sensitive reporting via Velocity, however, needs more in-depth consideration. The advantage here, however, is that Jama Software offers training for this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The systems my team develops are highly complex. This stems from a high number of stakeholders, system requirements and extensive documentation and life cycle sustaining requirements, where the overview and impact on individual system elements can easily get lost. In addition to the requirements side, complexity for internal and external stakeholders is indispensable for our team.
Jama Connect helps us maintain complexity and transparency to the extent necessary.

Rich functionality, annoying add-ons

  • August 14, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to configure. traceability function is well implemented
What do you dislike about the product?
Charging extra for a functional safety kit when the product is advertised as having a functional safety framework (automotive/medical etc.) is borderline trade descrptions violation. You're selling a framework which you can't use for a SIL product without additional purchases
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Capture requirements and verification evidence

Moving to the Hosted version was a blitz.

  • August 11, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
At this moment for me the move to the hosted version was the best move done in years. For us the tracking of all tests and problems related to a requirement is an absolute must and this is ensured well enough.
What do you dislike about the product?
As an Admin I would like to see some changes in password management and more details collecting user data. Also the support towards our usergroup is ok but could be much better, also missing which direction we could go for solutions it's always us asking JAMA. Never do we get advise on how to change our structure(s) on how to make better use of the system.
Secondy is the limitation of the reporting as long as we stay with the office reporting it is OK, but if you need to use more detailed reports then it is getting much to complicated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Connection and Tracking of Requirements to tests, problems and changes

Great Requirements Management Tool

  • August 08, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect allows us to maintain and easily export our software requirement specifications. I often use the search and version history features to quickly reference requirements from previous projects. I also am able to make bulk changes with ease.
What do you dislike about the product?
Jama Connect doesn't have a feature that allows us to create redlined requirement exports. Certain changes, like moving around the order of requirements, takes a few moments to process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jama gives us one version controlled space to maintain our entire requirements repository. I am able to run targeted search queries to identify requirements that are missing up or downstream traces.

Tracing of requirements to their tests. The custom filters are useful for batch updates and searches

  • July 25, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It helps in identifying requirements that have not been linked to their parent or children requirements. It also helps in identifying which requirements have no testing associated with it.
What do you dislike about the product?
If a requirement is deleted in a child project, there is no provision of automatically syncing this deletion back to master project. The requirement has to be manually deleted in master project as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Management and tarcing of thousands and thousands of requirements in excel was problematic. Jama is able to automatically do this for us and identify orphan requirements and requirements not linked to any tets cases

Illumina JAMA user review

  • July 24, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like JAMA's ability and flexibility in keeping a large number of requirements (among other things) organized, as well as it's connectivity to JIRA and other Atlassian software.
What do you dislike about the product?
The software can feel really slow at times. The short timeout before it logs you out is also frequently annoying. I don't think I have any major complaints besides these minor usability factors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not sure if this falls under your company's side of things or mine, but I have heard of some adjustements that will be made such that we can use JAMA requirements as a source of truth themselves, instead of having to export everything into SAP/Teamcenter. Really looking forward to that one!
