Perfect for monitoring traffic and devices

  • June 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to use, and perfect for monitoring traffic and devices that may go down. If we start to get an influx of calls, Solarwinds is the first thing I turn to, to see if we have any devices that may be down and affecting our network.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing so far. I only use it when needed in my position, but it provides the info that I need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can see what is eating up our bandwidth and when devices are down, which helps me gather more info before someone in a higher position ca confirm what is happening.

Feature Rich Monitoring

  • June 20, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Several new and innovative additions to the new release. Contextual mapping available from supported hardware by a simple click of a submenu, with no additional configuration necessary
What do you dislike about the product?
They tend to stay on the upper edge of the supported platforms to run the latest platform. While support remains great for older versions of their software the latest and greatest requires late model OS and SQL. Thankfully the new online installer removes a lot of the upgrade anguish.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SolarWinds is rapidly added features that distinguish it from the Up or Down monitor technology. It provides detail information for sizing and growth to help in the budgeting process.

SolarWinds NPM Review

  • June 19, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great product for monitoring multiple vendor IT networks. Scale-able, affordable, quick and easy to setup. SQL Data structure means you can get under the hood for alerting and reporting purposes.
What do you dislike about the product?
A lack of security on the newer UI elements and other modules (Netpath) in the Orion suite of tools. This can be mitigated if very carefully setup and controlled by experienced professionals. Therefor not making it suitable for most MSP Providers. Development priority can sometimes be given to future growth areas rather then fixing the base problems with the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
flexible API means Solarwinds can be truly integrated into other business process applications. This means end to end automation is possible for adding, modifying and removing devices from the platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Experienced staff to run the platform to get the most out of it. Database Administrator to make the performance as good as it can be

NPM Review

  • June 18, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility of the product is 1st class and allows you add any product you like and if certain stats aren't supported out the box you can create your own pollers for those stats.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be slow at times even with the hardware sized correctly. Fixing bugs and niggles in the product rather than continually bringing out new versions with super new functionality would be good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its allowed us to have full visibility of our network and the ability to view historical data with alerting so rather than always waiting for a user to call with an issue we can be much more proactive with faults.

Solarwinds NPM is a very helpful and useful tool

  • June 15, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The web console, and how things are displayed for quick and easy review
What do you dislike about the product?
The Licensing method is somewhat frustrating and the price was a bit high
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
NPM proved useful in detecting several problems at one of our remote locations, that we were not aware of.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Seems to work much better than other tools that I have used

Can't live without it

  • June 13, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of NPM in my opinion is the advanced alerts and all that you can do with them. Basic alerting will lead to many false positives but with NPM you can quiet your alerts down to just what you want to be alerted on... which is the main idea right?
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there were more alert actions available for advanced alerts. For example, rather than have a sound play, I would like a popup alert to trigger on all admin's desktops. There are ways to script something like this which just shows how flexible NPM is, but I would like to see more built in actions like a popup window for example.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the need for automatic problem resolution with NPM. This benefits us because things go bump in the night and we're not a 24/7 operation... with NPM we're able to monitor for those bumps and automate the fixes so we're not having to wake up and login for every little bump.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check out some of the other modules from Solarwinds that works in tandem with NPM. Server & Application Manager is my favorite and there are so many more to add on to this amazing tool belt called Network Performance Monitor

SolarWinds provides the flexibility needed to monitor small to large networks with the NPM

  • June 13, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With the NPM, SolarWinds provides a core module with which it is possible to quickly and flexibly implement a network and server monitoring with multitenant capability.
Within a few hours a multi-vendor surveillance is installed and even alarms and reports are configured.
What do you dislike about the product?
For more than 6 years, we have been using SolarWinds with all our customers and I really can not find anything negative.
Feature requests from customers are taken seriously.
new products are integrated, existing products are developed further in short cycles
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With SolarWinds, we've been able to consolidate multiple different network, server, and application monitoring tools from different customers.
This results in a shorter deployment time, lower network administration costs, less capital expenditure
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Visit Solarwind's Roadshows, the Solarwinds Thwack Board, to speak with customers, developers, and the sales team

The most useful tool!

  • June 13, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
NPM is quite simple but powerful tool for network monitoring. The feature I like most is the flexibility - you can create your own alerts/reports/polers and etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Network Atlas has quite old interface and limited list of features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The troubleshooting of all issues related to network outages always started with NPM.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Isolation of voice issues on network

Everything you need at your fingertips and easy to add to.

  • June 12, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how neat and orderly it is displayed on the screen. You have it listed by subnet or supernet depending on your design on the left and then it drills down to all the subnets below that level on the right hand side. It have everything that you would need to describe your subnets. You can add VLAN information, descriptions and I just took another look at it. WOW! I didn't know you could look at it from a chart view. That is pretty impressive too.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really say there is anything that I don't like about it. It was kinda difficult to understand what I was seeing the first time I used it. I didn't really like it much but as I used it more and more, the easier it was to read and to fill out that it became indispensable. When something is this functional you really begin to understand and use it a lot.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to keep track of all of our old subnets and implement the new ones. We used to have /24 subnets for everything. Even a point to point connection. Well not really but it was darn close to doing that.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't let it daunt you at first. It seems complicated but really it isn't. It can be a life saver sometimes.
