Canva--A great free basic graphic design app that lacks some features

  • October 28, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use is the best part about Canva. The user interface is simple and intuitive, and the built-in collection of free shapes, illustrations, photos, text templates, and layouts are a big plus, along with the ability to upload your own. There is also a pretty good selection of editing options: text spacing, size, and alignment, photo and shape transparency, brightness/contrast/other photo attributes, a small collection of filters, and you can even change the colors of some of the free vectors. I use this for any graphic design project--book covers, social media posts, website graphics.

The autosave feature is also amazing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Canva is great, but there are certain limitations with the free plan. The inability to upload your own fonts is the big one. The built-in font selection is decent, but still limited, but if you want true control you'll have to shell out for the business plan, which also includes transparent background and resizing.

Also, while there are free images/vectors that are easy to find via browsing, the search feature is very poor. Usually the only results that turn up are premium (paid) files, and you have to scroll for a while

It occasionally has some glitches, such as elements shifting in the final downloaded document. This occurs sporadically, and I have yet to find a solution, but in my experience this occurred only when a photo was filtered. Your results may vary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This tool is absolutely wonderful for book covers, especially for people who don't have any experience with graphic design. This is incredibly easy to use, and one can usually get a decent looking product with very little work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Canva is great for basic uses, but for more advanced features you'll have to shell out for the paid plan, or Photoshop.

Marketing/Promotion Materials

What do you like best about the product?
The designs are modern and put together well. The finished products make us look like graphic designers when our abilities are nowhere near that of a graphic designer.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does get a little bogged down/loading which probably just comes with so many images/graphics. I also wonder how much of this has to do with my actual computer/network/etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All of our promotions for events now look professional and we do not have to wait for the Graphic Design team for smaller events as they are extremely busy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check to see what size you want to use (i.e. FB post or poster) so that it can fit the screen exact. It is a great feature so utilize it.

Simple to use, impressive results. Great for social media and websites!

What do you like best about the product?
Canva is very easy to use, providing templates, shapes, ideas for content... In a jiffy you can have a very nice design for any digital work.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I dont love is the way of organizing the images you upload. Sometimes it gets to messy. Maybe it would be good to be able to have different client 'templates' so that you can customize each font and colors for each of them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Perfect for generating images for social media, blog posts and infographics. We have been using this for all of our social media accounts, our webpage and even for your clients!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Simple online interface. If you need ideas for templates and color combinations this is it. It helps you create wonderful compositions.

I actively use this site for presentations, invites, and resumes.

What do you like best about the product?
I think the options are fantastic. The end product always looks professionally designed. The program is also easy to understand and use for someone without tech skills.
What do you dislike about the product?
The program can often run very slow if you have multiple products you're working on. Additionally, it can take awhile to go through all the different page layouts. It would be helpful if you could type in a prototype of what you're looking for and have options pop up (i.e. page with three circles, or simple heading with 4 boxes, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It reduces the need to outsource design projects because they end up looking professional through this program.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a fantastic easy program to use -- even if you don't have design skills!

Perfect for newly-minted artists

What do you like best about the product?
Great for content marketers that are not artistically inclined, Canva let's you get things done.
The product is free, all you pay for are the premium images you might want, and unlike other tiered-plan apps, you don't have to worry about limitations like file formats for downloads.
Easy and intuitive!
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much - my only request would be an auto-snap grid to align infographie elements.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canva allows me to get artwork done for our website, social media cards, and page banners with ease

It helped me get past the paralysis associated with trying to produce quality graphics without a formal background in graphic arts.

Canva is a life saver!

What do you like best about the product?
I always recommend Canva. I love that I can get a near-photoshop experience all the while creating custom graphics and images as needed. Not only do myself and my team use it daily for business, but my husband and I even used it to create our wedding invitations!
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish I could add custom fonts on my own, and save each Canva created image into its own folder on Canva itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed to be able to create stellar graphics but not so heavy duty that it required a photo shop purchase. Canva fit right in!

What do you like best about the product?
Canva lets you browse thru new design ideas per medium size. Whether it is for a Facebook banner or a print poster, they provide the best layout options for the sizes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Too limited options if you're using it for free.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In my field as an artist, putting up with everyday layouts can be exhausting and Canva helps us in thinking easy about design.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try Pinterest.

What do you like best about the product?
How quick and easy it is to create visual content for any purpose. Few clicks and a lot of choice, especially on the free plan.
What do you dislike about the product?
There could be a few more fonts, but I guess they are provided in the paying version
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I create non-repetitive visual content for social media posts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you look for an easy to use tool that will give you a variety of choice for your social content or other website related needs, it 's one of the top tools in the market.

Canva Has Helped me with Creating a my Brand for my Business

  • September 11, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Canva is an intuitive, simple, and easy design aid that I can use for creating blog post visuals as well as eye-catching social media pictures that has helped me build my brand and my business. I do enjoy the variety of shapes and fonts, and really like how all my past projects are stored and can be reused/repurposed for other projects. I love it!
What do you dislike about the product?
I have to say the one thing I am not too crazy about is the flow of the mobile app: aka the website version seems to offer more opportunities to customize your canvas size whereas the mobile version seems to have a few options to choose from based on what social media platform you will be using.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need to make visuals almost on a daily basis for my business, so I need something that I can quickly hop into, create, play around with, and rearrange to best suit my brand. Canva does this for me very well. I also enjoy not being tied down to just 4 fonts or 5 shapes and working with that. Canva is my imagination's playground to just throw shapes together to make a great design with ease.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a way to design a logo or brand, Canva is an intuitive, quick, and easy tool to use to get you up and running.

The BEST Photo Editing App For Social!!

  • September 10, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Where do I start?! Canva gives users an experience unlike any other when it comes to creating quality graphics that can be used across a multitude of social channels, as well as formatting fit for blogs, emails, etc. The drag and drop features make customization a breeze. Anyone with no prior design experience can make use of free templates. Free MODERN templates. Plus the option to scroll through and see what others are creating is a great tool for those stuck in a creative slump. Canva makes branding your business fun!
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much I can say in terms of dislikes. The interface can be a bit buggy at times, with it being difficult to select the object/layer you'd like, but nothing that a quick refresh won't take care of. All the designs save automatically so accidentally closing a tab is never a detrimental loss to your progress.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With a growing advertising department, the need for graphics on the fly and interchangeable options across social channels has been the biggest problem we've been able to solve with Canva. In a bind for an Instagram post and no graphic designer available to help? You can create a like-worthy graphic in minutes by simply copy and pasting your favorite quote onto a free stock photo. Designing in Canva has given me an opportunity to realize a palette and creative direction among our brands that is simple to follow and so so easy to execute with this app.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Hiring or outsourcing graphic designers can be a huge financial commitment to make. If you've already got a resource who is creative minded and just needs the platform to release that creativity, Canva is perfect! Utilizing the paid option (Canva For Work) you can even add multiple users, and create a team where everyone's designs and inspiration can come together for the brand.
