Canva—Photoshop Alternative for Blog/Social Media Graphics

  • April 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Canva has a multitude of premade social media and page templates for all sorts of purposes. Whether you're writing an ebook for a free download or making customized graphics for Pinterest, there are hundreds of layouts available.
What do you dislike about the product?
The paid version is actually more expensive than Photoshop if you're paying monthly. (If you opt for the yearly paid plan, it's the same price.)

The free version doesn't allow you to search items by "free." You actually have to pay for it in order to properly filter free photos, which I feel should be a basic feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canva is a user-friendly product for designers (or even non-designers!) who don't need all the functionality of Photoshop. It also has a great system for sharing your work with a team and storing the resources you'll need to create consistent graphics for your brand.

Paid version also allows you to import custom fonts, which is great.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Most of Canva's features are available for free. Only some features are paid, like creating brand colors and templates. However, they do offer a 30-day free trial of the paid version, so give it a try!

The paid version allows you to utilize branding features such as consistent layouts, color palettes, logos, and other features. You can upload your own fonts and images so you don't have to worry about a limited library of options. (Although, they already have a huge selection of elements to choose from.)

Easiest design tool...ever

  • April 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The drag and drop feature makes it the easiest tool to use for design. Plus, there are a ton of free icons and photos to use. I can get my design projects done in half the time now.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much to dislike but I guess my only critic is sometimes it has a lag in saving. But that's rare.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need to make graphics as quick and efficient as possible and Canva provides this benefit for me.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get the Pro level because the added features are awesome.

Favorite Design Tool

What do you like best about the product?
It's incredibly user-friendly, saves me massive amounts of time, and is extremely cost-effective (free if you don't need certain features). Also the pre-set sizes such as facebook cover photo or twitter photo, etc. are incredibly helpful. They also have recently added a fairly large free (stock) photo collection with certain subscriptions.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's web-based so that creates glitches at times, and the mobile app leaves something to be desired.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am not a pro at tools like photoshop and indesign, so Canva allowed me to have a ton of flexibility and save a lot of time and effort by creating professional-looking graphics that include our logo, brand fonts, and brand colors with ease.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I absolutely love it. It saves time and effort for those not well-versed in the adobe products or with simpler needs. We create most of our social media images using Canva, implementing brand fonts, logos, and colors with ease. Another major plus is the ability to pre-format images to common social media sizes such as facebook post, instagram post, event cover photo, twitter header, etc.

LOVE

What do you like best about the product?
The pre-made layouts are amazing! I love that I can choose one if I'm in a hurry, or just not feeling super creative.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've noticed that sometimes (only about 5% of the time) things move around when saved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No real problems. The benefits are all of the different template options, the pre-made layouts that can be used or just inspire you and the fact that it's FREE without a watermark. Amazing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it! The best content creation source I've tried.

The perfect combination of creative and ease in one tool

  • April 26, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love Canva's ease of use. They make it really simple for non-graphic designers to get in there and accomplish what needs to be done. Additionally, they have a myriad of templates and designs you can draw from when you're unsure what to design.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish Canva supported a grid that made it easier to align items across the design. Also, I wish there was a crop feature that made it easier when you oversize the design.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a tool that allowed us to quickly create social media designs that would reduce the use of internal resources and Canva helped us achieve this goal.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is certainly worth the price with little-to-no effort to get onboarded; I highly recommend it. Take advantage of the available templates; especially the Infographic ones. It makes it much easier to finalize content marketing tactics with half the time.

What do you like best about the product?
I can easily make custom social graphics and ads that look very professional.
What do you dislike about the product?
A lot of images cost additional money when using g the free version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm able to really take my social presence to a higher level as well as improving site header images without the need of a graphic designer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Works well in the free version, I plan on upgrading to full version soon for added features like brand templates.

Canva is Photoshop for Dumbies

  • April 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The thing I like best about Canva is all of the pre-designed layouts that I can choose from when I login to create a graphic. The layouts cover a wide variety of things including Facebook cover photos, square images for social media, presentations, business cards, and much more.
What do you dislike about the product?
The thing I dislike about Canva is that there is no way to just look at the "free layout" options. When looking for a layout I have to scroll through the basic layouts as well as the premium layouts that require payment in order to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canva allows me to create graphics for work so that I don't have to solely rely on our graphic designer and his photoshop skills to get every single image created.

Easy go-to templates but don't get too creative!

  • April 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great free layout templates and design ideas. Also fairly easy to navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes freezes and looses your work if you do too much and overload it. Doesn't let you customize or move things around as much as you want to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to add creative designs for our social media outlets that we wouldn't otherwise be able to create. Social media posts and engagement numbers are up.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Maybe take the time to learn tips & tricks to Canva before using. Otherwise, it is pretty easy to learn as a new user. Sometimes can be frustrating.

Great free program

  • April 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that it is FREE. It gives a lot of options for text layout, stock graphics, shapes, clip art, etc. You can also import your own elements if you have a logo, etc. that you want to use. It is also REALLY easy to use. I am the sole graphic designer type person in my department of about 20 people, so it has been great to be able to mention Canva to some of the other people in my department for them to use if they need something before I can get to it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's hard to think of anything I dislike. The only thing I can think of is that I don't think it is possible/easy to make essentially the same document in a variety of sizes. In paid programs like PhotoShop, if you need to make a variety of sizes using the same elements, you can select all the layers and drag it to a new document and shift things around until it fits. In Canva I believe it would be a more manual process as you cant have multiple projects open at once.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in a digital advertising department and we sometimes use them to create spec banner ads for clients (final ads are typically created in PhotoShop due to what I mentioned above about being able to drag layers to difference documents to quickly make a variety of sizes). We also use it to make custom cards to include with client gifts, invitations to events, etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a great, free product to use for basic graphic design creation. Great for creating images for social media, invitations, flat cards, etc.
