Professional collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
The communications ecosystem could be quite taxing with multiple carriers and volatility with their services and pricing. Nexmo ensures that none of this affects our business. Nexmo's infrastructure is also quite robust which is evident from excellent API latencies that we observe when we use their services.
Nexmo's global and local leadership team is invested in the success of our business and goes the extra mile to help us on various initiatives, by getting the right professionals to work with us.

What do you dislike about the product?
Haven't experienced any major red flags in my close to 2 years of using Nexmo for SMS, Calls, etc. One thing that Nexmo could improve on is to generalize various customer requirements and build them into the service, so that it is available for customers across the board. This is more preferable than asking thousands of customers to change their implementation at short notice, which totally beats the purpose of using an SMS service provider who can abstract out the complexities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are primarily using Nexmo as a CPaaS service provider to help integrate SMS and Voice support with our services for various needs like One Time Passwords, Transactional Notifications, Text to speech calls, etc.
Solid messaging API
What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Nexmo for years for SMS sending from my apps, and its been rock solid, with very fast response times throughout all the period.
I also like their website is clear and concise , and its very easy to find relevant information.
Last but not least, their pricing is quite competitive for years already.
The few support cases I opened throughout the years were always taken care of in a matter of hours.

What do you dislike about the product?
There is very little to dislike in Nexmo. My only request could be to add more options/formats to the analytics reports, but that's far from a dislike

OpenTok Does a LOT for You!
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about the OpenTok platform is all of the features that are taken care of for you. Sure it doesn't take too much to write your own code to do basic video call support over WebRTC, but in order to do it well and robustly is a different story! OpenTok takes care of making sure the video call works on multiple devices and multiple browsers. And OpenTok takes care of making sure it continues to work on new releases of browses and mobile operating systems. That alone is a major headache that only companies with a lot of developers would be able to manage if they wrote their own WebRTC video call program. And the other major feature of OpenTok that is great and makes it so you don't have to figure it out yourself is the video recording. OpenTok allows you to record the video calls that are made. And if you wanted to do that in your own 'from scratch' WebRTC video call program, then that would take significant effort and a lot more servers dedicated to recording those video calls.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the things I dislike about OpenTok is that the Node.js SDK doesn't use promises and instead still uses callbacks in its methods. That is a slight inconvenience for sure. It also seems like the Node.js SDK doesn't have methods for all of the OpenTok's web API. So sometimes you might find you have to write a function to call the OpenTok Web API because there isn't a method in the Node.js SDK.
Oh the other thing I don't like is that you can't pause a recording. So you can start and stop a recording which will create a video file and then you can start and stop the recording later but that would then create a second video file. It would be nice if there was a feature to pause the recording so that it can be resumed later and in the end would only produce one video file.

With OpenTok we are able to use video calls to connect people together. And we are able to do it without having to worry about differences that can be introduced by different browsers or devices because OpenTok abstracts those worries away. We also have the need to record the video calls that occur sometimes and so OpenTok solves that problem for us.
