Easy to get started, more advanced features are less obvious
What do you like best about the product?
User interface is simple & v similar to Microsoft Excel & other standard spreadsheets. I like the ability to comment, interact with other users and to tag users for actions.
What do you dislike about the product?
For someone unfamiliar, Smartsheet just looks like another spreadsheet application, with a different interface. There are more advanced features that are not intuitive, and only after someone shows me, did I know it was available to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a continuous set of documents that must be routed to different reviewers, and we use Smartsheet effectively for that. It's easy to tag the next reviewer, to do analysis on how long the reviewer had the document, etc. Separately, because it's easy to share project timelines and for simultaneous collaboration, I use Smartsheet for simple project schedules with task durations & dependencies.
Because of the collaborative nature of Smartsheet, I don't have to send multiple emails or merging comments together manually.

Smartsheet has been an integral part of all of our new departmental systems
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet enables fast, accurate, user-friendly data collection while providing robust data management tools on the backend. The ability to collect data from users in a way that does not enable them to see the backend and "cheat" the system to have things their way has been enormously useful. Parity with Excel is imperfect, but it is close enough that sheets can be easily exported to Excel for more powerful (goal seek, pivot tables, etc.) processing.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest flaw with Smartsheet is the way it handles complex formulae. The ability to reference the current row with the @ symbol and create column formulae went a long way to addressing this. However, formulae which must reference cells in rows above or below them will still break any time a row is deleted, moved, or inserted above. Data validation has also improved drastically recently, but more robust tools--such as being able to control the length of an input--would be welcome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet has enabled us to have a single, all-in-one place for all department business needs. Formerly, a multitude of different (often outdated) PDF and Excel-based forms were sent around via e-mail. By putting all of these in one place, Smartsheet has dramatically reduced the risk of a form being sent to the wrong person, and made requesting changes to forms a breeze.
Smartsheet is an excellent/robust workflow management tool that streamlines business processes.
What do you like best about the product?
There are many things that I like best about SmartSheets - here a few:
- the solutions center is amazing, it helps me think out of the box and understand what's possible
- that our instance of SS is HIPAA compliant
- that it is low/no-code
- it is easy to use

What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there were more healthcare and academic templates in the solution center. An option to schedule and reports would be amazing. I dislike the name, because it undersells the solution, smartsheets is so much more than a sheet! :-)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SmartSheets has enabled us to build secure workflows to: 1. manage the student provider absence request process. 2. manage academic integrity reports 3. manage HR position approval 4. Manage patient complaints
Smartsheets is great for the basics but could have some advancements
What do you like best about the product?
The easiness to add and change data. I love how you can set up automation within sheets. The data can be organized in just a couple of clicks. The ability to give other employees access to sheets they need and filter information they don't.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact everything has to be categorized by column or in vertical line views and you can never switch that setting/view. Sending things to non-Smartsheet users can look a little weird and not a lot of customizable with those emails/requests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheets is making our processes more automated for transferring data to field employees to and from office staff so our projects run more smoothly. This allows us to invoice and job cost within Smartsheets.
Great Upgrade if you are project managing in Excel
What do you like best about the product?
I really like that the format of Smartsheets is similar to that of an excel document. I think most business people are pretty comfortable in an Excel document, so moving into smartsheets is an easy move vs. a different project management tool where a new format would have to be used as well.
I also like the various templates available and the easy approach to customization. There are a lot of automations and other add-ons too, It seems to me that Smartsheets has been innovating quite a bit over the last few years and is constantly improving their product.

What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like that I cant make multiple tabs under one smartsheet, instead I have to make multiple sheets. I also think Smartsheets is maybe not the most robust when it comes to project manage because of the format of an excel-like document, it is hard to add a lot of detail. There are a few different views you can change too, but its still comments and field based vs having a description and a full project view
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking tasks across different areas of the marketing organization. This helps me have a source of truth that is a live view of what tasks we are all working on.
Smartsheet is an organizational dream
What do you like best about the product?
I oversee operations for an HOA Management firm and have used Smartsheet for roughly 7 years. It has been an organizational dream for internal operations. We utilize SmartSheet for internal ops for our many teams, documenting company procedures, storing data, and providing customized reporting to our clients.
What do you dislike about the product?
The least helpful thing about Smartsheet is not being able to copy and paste items from one smartsheet to another for easy data transfer. I wish we could move data from one sheet to another without copying and pasting each cell.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet assists my organization by centralizing data in one system for each team to use company-wide. We are able to update sheets in real-time and submit & download reporting internally and externally.

What do you like best about the product?
The most beneficial aspect of Smartsheets is that all your data can be in one place, such as notes, attachments, and contact information. The system is easy to use as the structure is similar to other spreadsheets but with more bells and whistles.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are several limitations to Smartsheets. One major limitation is that you can't unhide only a couple of columns in a sheet. If you want to see something, you have to unhide all and rehide the columns you do not want to see. This is a time consuming process if you have a very large sheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The benefit that Smartsheet has for my team is that it can easily be shared with internal and external users. It eliminates barriers to collaboration! It also increases efficiency as the team can comment on specific rows and it sends timely updates to the team.

What do you like best about the product?
To be able to have multiple users at the same time and also have the data from all users to update and create reports and upload them into a dashboard while having the same data available from your cell phone..

The option to use a full screen in the reports and also to have a wider dashboard, that i think can help a lot more so that we can provide more information to each screen and be better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem i think that is solving more is the gap that you have when a team has many files of the same information, and when smart sheet we are preventing that we double dip in the data, or have the delay in time

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheets is like Excel on steroids with added Project Management features. Add in formulas, dynamic reporting, and dashboards and it's a powerful tool!
We've been able to make exactly the right information available to stakeholders via dashboards, which has decreased the number of questions asked to our team and increased trust we're working on the right things. The template sets are an amazing resource for getting started, and the documentation, training videos, webinars and community forums are so helpful in figuring out pretty much anything you need to do.

What do you dislike about the product?
I find the formulas a bit tricky (both in concept and syntax), but I've always been able to figure out what I need via the documentation and community forums.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Smartsheets to communicate and track both within the team and outside of it.
We track our projects against a baseline we set at the beginning to better understand current status, and also to better estimate for future development work.
We make our current projects and recent releases visible via a dashboard, significantly decreasing the number of questions coming into our team.

Best Management Product; Better than Excel
What do you like best about the product?
It took me a while to figure out how to fully use the potential of SmartSheet. I run logistics for a global sponsorship department and we have some of the same event year after year so being able to create the templates for almost 15- 20 events per year is fantastic; especially since each of those events requires 3 sheets. The level of customization I use and training my team to understand my madness is so helpful. The notifications I set up for my team is perfect so now everyone pays attention when they're needed instead of brushing off notifications.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I don't like is that I can't customize that first primary column like the other columns. It's only able to be a text column which is the only thing I harp on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm the only person running sponsorship logistics in my company so it's much easier to have everyone adapt to my needs and the number of details I need them to review for our events. I've been able to become more efficient and have better communication with other departments in my company.
