Long time user
What do you like best about the product?
We use Smartsheet succesfully company-wide. It allows us to seamlessly blend tasks for a multitude of departments and it's a great tool for tracking purposes. We use it for resource tracking, financials, commercials etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Larger files will sometimes freeze up. Formulas will not apply to an entire document, if contains over a number of lines. Formulas can become confusing when you have multiple items involved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Interdepartamental collaboration. Tracking purposes. Provides a centralized view that can easily be shared with the customer, while hiding sensitive information.
Simplifies and organises NGO humanitarian project management
What do you like best about the product?
I discovered Smartsheet when seeking a solution for streamlining project management approaches between partners implementing a humanitarian response program.
I am a freelance humanitarian ME(AL) technical advisor and I spend a lot of time developing project information management solutions for NGO clients operating in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Given the trend in the sector towards projects implemented in partnership or consortia, project management needs a system that can be easily accessed and ‘owned’ by all partners, that is scalable up and down throughout different phases of the response, and that is flexible enough to adapt to different contexts and project requirements.
Smartsheet is a fantastic solution for this. While piloting this product with a client, I have developed a suite of templates that allow projects to be added and removed from the response program as it progresses. The package pulls together budget information, project activities, meeting notes, reporting deadlines, and M&E pieces for maximum accountability and transparency across the project and for all project partners. It reduces silos across work teams and the time spent maintaining separate workplans. It automates reminders, ensuring tasks don’t get forgotten as staff turnover or other priorities emerge. It reduces email traffic as communications on certain activities and issues can take place in the Smartsheet platform, simultaneously creating an archive of decisions made about the project. It is an easy system for project staff to learn and customise themselves, so clients are not reliant on IT consultants in the longer term.
A key reason NGOs often don’t have solid project information management systems is due to the high annual costs that can’t be absorbed by cyclical project budgets or need to customise a business product to the non-profit world. This is not the case with Smartsheet: easily customisable to any project needs and with an annual licencing approach that can be scaled up and down with the project cycle, this is a great solution all round.
I’m looking forward to continuing to use this product and introduce it to other clients seeking similar solutions.

What do you dislike about the product?
Smartsheet doesn’t work well for managing project participant data or more advanced monitoring exercises – at least not without buying an additional add-in for pivot tables, but even that lacks a key feature of Excel needed for managing double-counting and other indicator calculations. In general, there are also many features of Excel that are relied upon for M&E work that cannot easily be replicated in Smartsheet – either not at all, or not without complicated workarounds.
The Smartsheet dashboards are also less sophisticated than other dashboard products already commonly used in the sector. However, the dashboards do allow embedding of URLs from other websites, which is a good solution. It allows key project data for monitoring to still be pulled into the system so everything project managers need to see is in one place, while using the more advanced analytical features of other dashboards platforms already in use. View this as a project manager’s tool, more so than an M&E person’s analytical tool. Overall, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks in this one area and the fact it allows M&E data to be seen by project managers more regularly – even if that data is processed elsewhere – is a huge win.

1. Transparency & better communication – everyone on the project team can see what is happening in the project and what is planned. Changes to the project can be recorded and decisions made are documented.
2. More organised – this connects work plans across different technical teams and also to the budget. Everyone knows the planned timelines and has the latest dates synced to their work area’s subplan. Things don't get forgotten or confused, there is one source for all project information.
3. Reduces email traffic – no more emailing partners and colleagues for updates, searching emails for decisions made, or sending due date reminders. The information is all accessible in the platform and reminders are automated.
4. Accountability – meeting notes are documented, action items tagged, and due dates reminders automated.

A powerful tool for process automation
What do you like best about the product?
As a business owner, I appreciate the flexibility Smartsheet gives me to tailor automated solutions to my specific needs. The automatic emails, reminders and updates help streamline processes in our organisation by taking care of the routine tasks that are easy to forget but necessary for success. As a result, I can spend more time as a manager solving problems rather than searching for answers or seeking approvals - saving us valuable time and resources. Its usefulness has even been recognised beyond engineering circles; it is now being used in many different industries for many different use cases.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find Smartsheet a helpful tool, but there are some areas I do not like. It can be awkward when linking different trackers for the same project as you cannot have multiple tabs in one view as you can with Google Sheets. Also, importing data from Sheets is not always reliable and not all conditional formatting options are yet available in Smartsheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm benefiting from Smartsheet by having a single source of truth for project information, which allows me to quickly communicate progress with my team.
Great service for management with nice customization to it

What do you dislike about the product?
It's hard to find downsides for Smartsheet. I'd say it would be better to have a little mor customization like other spreadsheet apps, but what it offers right now is good enought.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly with the management of the project our team is developing, and when we are involved and colaborate in other teams' projects. it is also great for having a shared database.
It is an application that solves my administrative needs
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is extremely powerful. It can handle a large amount of information with precision. It is also quite versatile so that the user can tailor the software to their specific needs.
However, it is still an easy-to-use software. It has an exciting variety of resources to learn from.

What do you dislike about the product?
Its formulas are a bit complicated. It is normal to need resources to create the dashboards and manage them. Also, it is quite easy for the dashboards to break if a formula is edited.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking projects has been easier since using Smartsheet. We can now know where each person is in the project at all times.
It has also helped us to send automatic notifications and reminders to make it easier to keep track without the need to log into the software.

Great Project Management Platform for a Non-profit

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication with project team on tasks, having one spot to link and attach documents, project management of tasks
The most powerful management tool
What do you like best about the product?
It's cloud software, so I can access it from any device. It's functional, especially when traveling or I must pay attention to the project at the last minute.
It's compatible with several Excel functions, so learning hasnt' been complex. In addition, it is possible to import sheets from Excel into Smartsheet.

What do you dislike about the product?
It is a rather heavy application. I understand this because of its many functions, but I would like a lighter version because I don't always need all the functions. Sometime I just need to see the dashboard.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since using Smartsheet, it has become easier to manage my tasks and and those of others within the team. The workflow has been smoother and more comfortable. The Gantt feature has been vital in understanding what is going on in development. With this information, making the right decisions to achieve the goals is easy.
A user-friendly tool for project management
What do you like best about the product?
I use Smartsheet every day for project management. I appreciate that it's easy to use. I found it easy to learn when starting at my current organization, and I appreciate that it makes it easy to communicate with the people I collaborate with and to visualize which stage different projects are in the process.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't had a chance yet to build a new sheet from scratch in Smartsheet. The sheet that I use every day is amazing, but it seems that there may be a bit of a learning curve to incorporating all of the features if a company has just started using it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before Smartsheet, our company primarily used Google Docs and email to communicate. Smartsheet made our communication much more efficient.
One of the best project management tools
What do you like best about the product?
This is a fantastic collaborative solution that offers full visibility to track project status if you need a project management platform that can be viewed and used by internal and external persons who collaborate with your organization on projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to have more options when it comes to the ability to insert charts into actual sheets.
Besides that, everything is fantastic.

What do you dislike about the product?
While Smartsheet's automation feature is a significant advantage, creating complex workflows can be challenging for non-technical users. Also logic on forms is somewhat limited.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating IT support requests and managing software development projects. We have also used its api to develop tools to automatically import new projects and mantain the engineering dpt schedule.
