Great for Project Management!

  • October 08, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For my particular requirements, I love the setup of workspaces. It allows us to separate by project, plus allows us to have separate spaces for templates, administrative docs, etc - all of which are set up with different privacy/sharing settings. We can keep financial information out of the wrong hands; certain users can be set to "view only" so that information is not disseminated without authority; admin settings allow certain users to modify formulas or locked rows/columns while others cannot... in short, it allows me MUCH more control over who does what with what information, and that's invaluable in my industry.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, I used to dislike that you couldn't do more between sheets - but SmartSheet updates things all the time! That said, I do wish I could "edit" templates without having to first use the sheet, and then re-save as a template. I wish we could save a "type" of sheet - and then all edits made to the type (ie, conditional formatting, column options [ie if I add an option to a dropdown on a change order log]) that it would add to all sheets of that "type." I understand that can be a little tricky, and I know I can edit the template but for sheets already in progress we don't want to lose the work and the updates are time consuming. "Apply this update to all sheets in this category" would be a great option!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are keeping track of our projects much better with SmartSheet, in a way that Excel simply can't do. It has (most) of the formula benefits of Excel, with reminders and notifications, and integration with Google (among others, though we don't use the others really). Our clients really appreciate our logs, schedules, and how we are able to stay on top of the most minuscule of items, thanks to SmartSheet!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Utilize the training information and FAQs. They're invaluable. Ask for help with formulas - you can *almost* always do what you need with a combination of formulas, conditional formatting, and hidden columns.

Robust spreadsheet program

  • September 09, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The thing that sets this program apart in my opinion, is the fact that you can add attachments and comments that will stay associated with the row you upload them too.
What do you dislike about the product?
For people who are used to using Excel or Google sheets, some of the shortcuts and commands are different so you are having to re-learn something that may already be second nature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This works for people across businesses - they can even access without an account. You can change sharing and editing permissions and they don't need to have an Office subscription or Google account to use it.

Smartsheet collaboration is wonderful!

  • April 26, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that smartsheet allows the file storage along with the features similar to excel or google sheets. I also love that you can set reminders by line and e-mail the contributors about a specific line item. One of the best features is that each individual user can sort the sheet how they like it and it doesn't change the view for the other users.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the system can be so complex that the options to set up a sheet can be overwhelming for new users. Overall, I have very little to list about dislikes of this product. I really feel strongly that it has helped us tremendously!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a very geographically challenged organization. So allowing this type of collaborative work is crucial! This system also allows for a lot of tracking across multiple departments to input their "piece" of information and to have a final product that is cohesive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend this product. It has solved so many document storage and reconciling issues within our organization and across departments. It has also allowed so much file storage to become paperless which was a large part of why we moved to Smartsheet!

Smart Sheets Review

  • March 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The features are easy to use and it is good to have simplicity in learning. Any new employee can be taught this software very quickly. Also, The project management is quite simple with the Smart Sheets software as it contains necessary details like dependencies, duration of work and assignments. Besides, their sharing feature is absolutely awesome. It allows to share and get feedback to many others which is very important in staying updated.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cost of using Smart Sheets for smaller firm is too high. Also, I have doubts about the authentication and security. Moreover, it is less functional than MS Project and other competitors. But, they are on a good track.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is useful for our day to day meetings, keeping track of project actives, deliverable, and milestones. Also, it is helpful in sharing as it is online with multiple other stakeholders.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make it free for small companies or less costly

Fleixble, mutli-use platform, rapid onboarding

  • March 30, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet enables me to plug most gaps in our core ERP and company systems. It is ultra user friendly for both admin and users - very quick to set up new solutions and on-board new users - any one can use it. Collect data via simple webforms in a few clicks. Customer support is available but rarely needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be nice if there was the option to link sheets as relational databases. Like most software vendors they quietly move features up the subscription ladder, but its basically good value.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet is an ultra user friendly tool to plug gaps in core software and processes. Even if you intend to fix those gaps its so quick to set up and on-board new users that it makes an excellent interim solution. As permanent solutions we have a company diary on smartsheet, use it for KPI tracking, expense reporting, timesheet reporting and for project to-do lists. Using it as a personal to-do list with the mobile app is v good.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a go - a ten sheet subscription is not expensive and you upgrade or downgrade any time.

Essential to my event planning

  • January 10, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can share info without saving and updating a million excel spreadsheets. I plan a lot of events in a year. My favorite part about Smartsheet is the forms I can create to capture registrations and imbed into my invitations. i can keep track of registrations daily and communicate the results to my team quickly. It also helps me to stay in touch with the venue on head count. We have cancelled a few events due to low response. This has saved us money. There is nothing worse than paying for an event that 3 people came to. Now we can see early and reschedule for a later date and drive bigger attendance. I also love how easy it is to share my projects in Smartsheet with my team.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very difficult to learn. We were required to complete the Smartsheet academy. It was a huge time commitment (over 10 hours). A test was required for certification. An 80% or higher was needed to pass. The highest score achieved out of 15 people was 65%. That was with an average 2+ hours to take the open book test. Unanimously it was the hardest process to learn. I also don't like that they changed their license fee structure. I can still be a creator but many on my team had their permissions lowered to viewer only.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it company wide to report sales, to share best practices, to list countless customer lists, and to track progress on projects. When i have a project I can easily see what tasks have been completed, by who and on what date. Its an excellent communication source for project management
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is difficult to use and difficult to teach. If you are considering this company wide invest is the deep dive training

Great collaborative spreadsheet/tracker

  • January 05, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love being able to keep up with projects, goals, status of items, etc. on Smartsheet. The forms and surveys are also super helpful in tracking information and gauging insights.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few quirks within Smartsheet, like the inability to create multiple tabs within a sheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization, project management and team collaboration are huge benefits! I don't have any major problems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Work with your team through Smartsheet and make live updates, unlike an Excel spreadsheet.

Smartsheet review by a digital project manager

  • March 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is user-friendly and much simpler to learn than Microsoft Project, yet it is still rich in features. New additions like the 'Timeline' view offer excellent visual representations of plans with minimal configuration. The ability to create templates allows me to set up templates for others and quickly start my own plans. The folder structures make storing and retrieving plans easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The print, save, and PDF functions are subpar, making it difficult to export the information you want to share. Managing accounts is also quite laborious, particularly when amending usernames and email addresses. It feels like some premium features, such as changing email addresses, should be standard settings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet addresses the need for creating quick, simple, and standardised project and program plans within my team and my organisation. Its intuitive interface benefits me by reducing the time spent learning the software and training others, especially for regular Excel users. I can organize all my plans in folders by project and stage, making it easy to find, reuse, and repurpose old plans.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The export function is a bit unyielding with smart sheet - its best to share the sheet as a live document
