Pretty powerful if you don't mind playing with it for a while
What do you like best about the product?
It has a lot of functionality, so it can combine Typeform/Google Forms, Dropbox, Excel/Google Sheets, and probably a few other programs all into one. It is pretty easy to collaborate and a few people working in a table at once.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit tricky to get a handle of. The fact that it looks like a spreadsheet but does not behave like one can be a bit frustrating, as simple things like "display in X column what is in Y column in another table" can be challenging, but I have found ways around it. I actually kind of like that part, as it is very much like coding/puzzle solving, but I can see others being sometimes frustrated by it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it to accept information from potential clients as well as to keep track of active projects once we sign statements of work with the clients. I am also finding ways to use it to set up alerts about missing/late invoices, project overruns, and more.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Dynamic linking would really be wonderful, as that would help get over the "this looks like Excel but is not" issue. By "dynamic linking" I mean being able to take one field, perform some simple formula on it (e.g. add a month to a date) and then use that result as the linked record.
Airtable is great for process automation, product catalogues and CRM
What do you like best about the product?
So simple to use but has loads of power. Really easy to get data in and out when using Zapier. Excellent support/knowledge base.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does take a little while to get your head round conceptually. The fact that it looks like a spreadsheet but doesn't always behave like one took a while to get to grips with. The tons of support articles help a lot though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have recently automated an award scheme that has removed a load of manual work but also allows us to automatically publish a progress tracker to the web.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend Airtable, the free plan gives you more than enough features to thoroughly test if it's right for you.
Task Management Made Easy
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to use templates, archive old ones, and easily assign tasks to my peers has never been easier. The visual simplicity of this, and the ability to click and drag is so simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has a limit to how much space you're able to use, but you can archive old items to add more space.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to check in on projects with my peers that work in different offices than me. This allows us to real-time collaboration and management like never before. We are able to check in on items that are still in progress as well. We also use this for file-sharing!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start with viewing some of the videos put together before using, or the user templates to get used to the tool first. It will help greatly!
Research data manager and project manager
What do you like best about the product?
I love that I can link tables together. The work we do is all very interconnected, so project management software that didn't allow this sort of tracking just wouldn't work for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some functional limitations that hinder Airtable's flexibility. For instance, prefilling surveys must be done manually and only certain field types allow defaults. I hope these are addressed soon.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Airtable allows us to easily track our research development pipeline. Since tables can be linked together, projects can seamlessly flow from one stage to another. Before, we had to manually move projects between our previous siloed tracking systems.
Very effective and agile
What do you like best about the product?
Shared and relationnal data is the core of the Airtable advantages. It is convenient enough that not only specialists can design effective tools. Especially for collaborators not highly skilled in technology, Airtable can become an effective tool while shared Spreasheets are not. It is very well suited in an agile development process of fine tuned and effective tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing is based on users. I can get the point but in organisations where the process implies that some collaborators nedd to interact, but very seldomly, price can become prohibitive.
Airtable's UI could benefit from beeing internationized.
Airtable's UI could benefit from beeing internationized.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem to adress is team collaboration and data sharing to support buisness processes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Practice in a sandbox to eveluate the full potential of the product.
Tool to track anything and everything
What do you like best about the product?
It's so flexible for data tracking. You create your own database exactly the way you want it. You don't have to know code. I have been able to use it to track blog posts, reading lists, special projects, and everything in between. Plus, they have tons of pre-made templates to jumpstart your project. You can also view all the multiple uses of other users on the Airtable Universe. If you haven't thought how you will use Airtable yet, you will come up with multiple ideas browsing through the templates and Universe.
What do you dislike about the product?
The iPhone and Android apps are way behind in terms of development. You cannot see multiple types of views for what you already have setup on the web app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to track Blog posts information such as due dates, topics, post images, and authors. I have also been able to use it to track meeting dates and display them on my website by embedding the Airtable 'base'. All I have to do is update the base and it automatically shows on my website. I'm also using it to keep track of proposals for funding. I am able to keep track of every single detail I want such as proposal name, the actual proposal document, proposal due date, proposal amount, status, and program the funding will be used for.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just give it a try. Go check out the ready made templates from Airtable or look at Airtable Universe. You will find so many different uses, both for business and personal.
Perfect for Work:
What do you like best about the product?
Airtable does all the things I might normally do using a combination of Excel and Access, but in a much simpler format. I also find the ability to embed documents very useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't yet discovered anything I dislike necessarily. I think offering record coloring only to paid subscriptions is unnecessarily strict.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am working to migrate our program's referral metrics from spreadsheets to Airtable, with the end goal of using a variety of block views to provide up to date information about our metrics to internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent visual platform for "boring" data
What do you like best about the product?
The visual elements of airtable make it easy for me to get people excited about spreadsheets. My team is engaged in a way that they were not with Excel or Google. I love the secret link function which allows me to share what data I want with each manager, so that they don't have to slog through item after item of data that is not relevant to them.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish I could link two distinct bases. Some info is best kept discreet, but there are instances where linking would allow me to remove some manual processes. We have built a based to manage budgets and spending and it would be great if my budget plan base could "talk to" my budget tracking base. I feel that putting all of these tabs in one base will make it difficult for my team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Airtable allows me to track budget expenditures with a varied group of managers and support staff. We can develop reports in a visual way that is easy for the managers to read and removes duplicative processes that were necessary when using other software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A lot of the really desirable features are pay features. Do your research and consider your needs before switching as there is a cost - however I feel it is worth the cost for our organization.
Thanks for organising my organisation
What do you like best about the product?
I can keep track of program attendance, contact information and program evaluations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can sometimes be a bit confusing and requires a bit of research to find the quickest way to do something
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
People tracking and data management.
Transformational power and simple to use
What do you like best about the product?
We have radically changed the way we do our business by automating our process through a combination of platforms with Airtable being the heart and brain of our new operation.
What do you dislike about the product?
Eventually, part of our solution will move to a full database solution but Airtable gives us a chance with limited technical capacity to test and learn as we refine our business process. Truly revolutionary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use the different views and connections trough Zapier to automate 80% of our administrative tasks. We have increased our operational efficiency by 50% and confidence by 200%.
