A stable database solution with a good data sorting feature

  • May 22, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to create a client database.

What is most valuable?

The sorting of the data is the best feature of Airtable. In a Google sheet I have to insert some data and Airtable provides the default option of doing it automatically.

What needs improvement?

Airtable needs improvement with the loading speed. It takes a lot of time to load.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted technical support as the form is enough to get responses for any issue.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For basic usage, Airtable is an open-source tool but if you need premium features like script automation, then you need to pay for it. As my clients provide me access after buying the subscription I do not have much knowledge about pricing.

What other advice do I have?

For a record-based database, Airtable is the best alternative to Google Sheets. It provides a lot of features that are better than Google Sheets or other Excel software. It can be used for clients and project management. I rate the overall product an eight-point five out of ten.

User-friendly, quick implementation, and effortless database creation

  • May 19, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I am employed at a startup that specializes in the production of aviation-related goods. In our operations, we utilize our software for various tasks, such as handling inventory, managing onboarding and offboarding processes, overseeing IT management and ticketing, and primarily focusing on purchase requirements. Our software plays a vital role in efficiently managing the entire inventory.

What is most valuable?

Airtable stands out for its exceptional user-friendliness, making it accessible to users of all skill levels. Its intuitive navigation ensures a smooth experience, allowing users to easily explore and comprehend its functionalities. Moreover, Airtable offers powerful automation capabilities that enhance efficiency. One particularly advantageous aspect is the seamless linking of databases, enabling the effortless creation of relational databases. Overall, this feature has proven to be immensely valuable and has been the primary focus of my usage.

What needs improvement?

The interfaces provided by the company have certainly undergone significant improvements since their earlier versions. The growth and progress have been remarkable. I have personally shared numerous feedback points and observed the prompt implementation of changes within a few months, which is highly commendable. However, I must admit that I have encountered several challenges with their interfaces.

In terms of the interface, there are certain improvements I would suggest. For instance, a global search feature is currently absent, which would greatly enhance usability. Additionally, incorporating a search function within automation would be highly beneficial. The current limitation of fifty automation per base is insufficient for our needs and could be expanded. Moreover, there is a need for a longer native time delay in automation to allow for more flexible syncing. Currently, the syncing time is set at approximately three to five minutes, which could be increased for smoother operations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Airtable for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If I were to evaluate it from the perspective of an individual consumer, I would give it a solid rating of nine out of ten. However, when utilizing it for my company, I have encountered some challenges. For instance, there have been occasional instances of table downtime, as evident from their Twitter feeds. Although the occurrences were not frequent, they occurred around once or twice per month. Additionally, there have been some speed issues and internal bugs that I have reported, which the company promptly addressed and resolved. While these may seem minor, they can become more impactful when operating with a larger user base, such as in the case of my company with over fifty users, placing us in a somewhat difficult situation.

I rate the stability of Airtable a five out of ten

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have approximately 50 users using this solution in my company.

For our company will have to stop using the solution at some point and move to another one.

How are customer service and support?

I have used the support many times and sometimes the support response could be quicker.

I rate the support from Airtable a six out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is extremely easy and it can take approximately 30 minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are utilizing the free version of the software, which adequately meets most of our requirements. As we explore the higher-end versions, we have noticed that the primary distinctions lie in the number of records and usage limitations. However, the free version offers comprehensive functionality, and the disparity between the free and paid versions is minimal, with only a few minor differences.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We conducted a thorough comparison of various similar products, and we found that this particular one was the most user-friendly. Unlike other options, there was no need to invest in additional services or buy extra time for building. It didn't require extensive technical knowledge either. Personally, coming from a non-software background, I have been able to utilize it effectively and create complex versions without much difficulty.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others.

The solution offers a high level of user-friendliness, making it accessible even to non-technical individuals. It holds significant value for small business setups, personal use, and startups like ours. The ability to customize it according to our specific requirements is particularly advantageous. We can easily comprehend its functionalities and swiftly create workflows. Additionally, the platform provides numerous third-party app integrations, allowing us to transform it into a more robust application. This makes it incredibly powerful for quickly starting and building projects with minimal technical knowledge. It truly enables anyone to utilize it effectively. Personally, I have a deep appreciation for the solution and its capabilities.

For individual users and in our specific use cases, setting up servers has been incredibly straightforward and highly beneficial. However, as we expand and scale our operations, we have encountered some obstacles along the way. Nonetheless, the platform remains user-friendly, and its automation capabilities are notably powerful. Through the setup process, we have been able to create functionalities that closely resemble those of fully coded software, all achieved with minimal coding knowledge. This ability to accomplish complex tasks with low code and no significant background knowledge is truly satisfying. Additionally, the intuitive color scheme and easily understandable views contribute to a pleasing user experience.

The tool is truly exceptional, offering a well-designed interface and remarkable ease of use. It represents a significant leap from using Excel, yet individuals familiar with Excel can easily adapt to and utilize it effectively.

I would recommend this solution to others.

I rate Airtable an eight out of ten.

The ease with which I can manipulate and view spreadsheet data in a multitude of ways
What do you dislike about the product?
Not quite as free as Google sheets when it comes to the formula side of things

Maintains precise, real-time synchronization of all your data

  • May 18, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Task lists, kanban boards, shared team calendars, task collaboration, and client access are some of the features that make Airtable so helpful in managing our company's tasks. We especially liked the gallery task tracking view, which differs from the Kanban view in that it does not group related functions into horizontal columns but instead sorts them according to our specifications. We also appreciated how simple it was to switch between the spreadsheet view and other task management setups, such as a Kanban board or project calendar, by clicking the arrow in the top left corner of the project tracker.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile version of Airtables is less user-friendly than the desktop version, and for some reason, you can't even access the desktop website from a mobile device.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since Airtable is so intuitive, even those who aren't Excel whizzes can use it to manage databases instead of sheets. If you need to connect an app that isn't directly compatible with Airtable, you can use the integrations feature to make it work with Airtable. You can contact the company for assistance if you encounter issues while utilizing the API.

A stable cloud-based CRM solution with good interface solution and multiple-choice options

  • May 17, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use it for my project management and as a mini CRM for my consultation business.

What is most valuable?

The relations and multiple-choice options are the most valuable features. For example, if I have one client but multiple projects in the same client, it's much easier to map it with Airtable than if I use a Google Sheet. The relationship between interfaces is a key feature that I use very often. And I also keep track of which features are needed for which projects. I would need to sign up, log in, do the basics, and then make payments. So each cell, I would need more than one value, which is impossible in Google Sheets. It takes a lot of work to sort or fast filter with that. But Airtable makes it super smooth. So these two are the four features that I use. Their interface is also very good. One can share this as a front end. That works like a front end for the table.

What needs improvement?

The template library is huge. I have a few suggestions with respect to that. But to complete automation, I think a bit more documentation around that would be really helpful because there are a lot of features in that which common people explore them less. And I don't know how many people are using that, but that has great potential. But product-wise, feature, expansion, it's good for now.

If they can give, you know, role-based permissions for viewing the data, that may be more interesting to work with. There are twelve fields and an editor. A salesperson can view a few areas. Whether an ops person can edit a few fields, an admin or a manager will be able to view and edit these fields but not edit the others. So you understand what I mean by user basis. So if there is user-based field-level access, that could be more interesting. I don't know if it's related to any of the new versions already, but that is something that I love trying.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a highly stable solution, I have not faced any bugs.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I prefer using something other than Airtable for very heavy projects. For example, if you want to maintain 10,000-20,000 rows, then Airtable will not be my first choice. But this is the best solution for anything under 2000-5000. Scalability-wise, it can handle it, but I don't prefer that.

How are customer service and support?

The support could have been better with their responses.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have Trello for my task but at a more intuitive and clean interface for a CRM level. It helps me with daily tracking. The default source and groups are beneficial. So I know which client I must contact today, which bills are pending, or which I must send the next estimate through. It's easy for me to sort and intuitive to figure out, okay, today, these are my things, and these are my things. And I don't have to keep changing it daily to automatically group sorts and everything. For my developer background, I use a lot of Google Sheets.

But when I discovered Airtable, especially when I started using it for my CRM, I discovered that it is perfect for me.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. And the templates make the job a lot easier. We can grab a template that's much closer to you. It'll already have the default connection to relationships. Just have to start customizing as per your needs and get started. So onboarding is pretty straightforward and great.

The time taken for deployment depends on the complexity and use case you are doing it for. For example, we use it as a CRM for my consulting business. I didn't have to spend more than one or two minutes customizing it. I didn't have to do it beyond that.

Using it more for internal tools or bigger projects might require more hours. But it shouldn't be beyond that. Even if you're doing scripts in automation, it should not take more than ten-fifteen hours, maybe not more than that. The scripts are really very intuitive you don't have to do it manually so that reduces a lot of manual effort here.

What was our ROI?

I have seen ROI with the use of the tool.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is somewhere around 10-12 USD monthly. Again, its scale depends on the depth you use. More features or more rows are costlier. There is also a free plan.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the product a ten out of ten. It depends on the use case. For example, if you want something that's more table format, timelines, or a database back end for some other front end, as long as not more than ten thousand rows, you can still use Airtable. It's a perfect tool to get started with. But if it's a very complex project that needs a lot of customization, especially if it needs very fine-tuned roles and user roles, I suggest staying away from Airtable. Customized user roles are not capable of strength for Airtable.
