Smartling is a great way to get localization launched on your site.

What do you like best about the product?
I've been with Smartling for over 4 years and the platform is rock solid. We used the GDN solution so the localized architecture is completely separate from our CMS. This was important as we were migrating from one CMS to another thus making the migration seamless when it came to our localized pages. There is a lot to like with Smartling; robust translation workflows, the ability to translate Marketo forms, multiple edit modes that allow you to update translated content on the fly. It is a very flexible platform and we have been able to successfully launch several languages quickly. I would also say in terms of customer service they are really terrific. I have really been happy with the people at Smartling; they are super helpful and responsive.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main challenge we have is certain languages like Japanese are not great for string-to-string translations. Smartling is mostly built for string-to-string translations and when you move away from that, to say a trans-creation model, the benefits are diminished in terms of translation memory.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling helped us localize our site in several languages and now we are in a position if we need to add one or two more languages it is not hard to do. The hardest part is just getting the translations completed. So in terms of setting yourself up to scale it works well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think if you are doing localization for the first time this is a really good solution.

What do you dislike about the product?

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Better translation memory management, cost savings, easier/better reporting
Recommendations to others considering the product:

Frustrating more than anything

What do you like best about the product?
Translation quality, good comms and account contacts
What do you dislike about the product?
Unintuitive platform and complicated user levels. Needed to be heavily customised to fit out needs. Wordpress connector not fit for purpose
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When it works it's fine. Constant issues with the Wordpress connector, which take months to fix, making the whole process very manual - defeating the point of the tool

What do you like best about the product?
Smartling stands out from other CAT tools with it's robust set of integrations. From Figma, to Contentful, to WordPress. Set up is easy, intuitive and fantastic for large scale projects. It also handles more file types than your typical CAT tool. Extremely powerful suite of in-context preview options.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be extremely hard to comprehend issues once they arise as it's never obvious what the problem might be. It's an Apple style of obfuscation where it shouldn't be most of the time. This isn't helped by the lackluster and slow support team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Smartling for when we need to localize products from different departments, with very specific set ups for each.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Smartling's support team can be notoriously slow to respond and overall not very knowledgeable in their own product, as such it can take up to weeks to solve outstanding issues.

Ever improving, easy to use

What do you like best about the product?
Smartling has shown great improvements to their software and quality of translations, and the features they are continuing to debut add good value. I like that they have the Fuzzy matching capability so that common translations do not keep being manually translated and that it is easy to submit whole files, single strings, or add words to your glossary.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to have quick turnaround on translation projects - there have been times where we have needed to extend a project's deadline as we await a few translations. But this is not always the case, only sometimes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the problem of having one concise location to go for our localization and we have benefitted from the ease in which we can open a job and the user friendliness of the process.

What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is taking Localization to the next level from its user-friendly interface and collaboration to its project tracking, industry best CAT tools and TM.
What do you dislike about the product?
Glitch with in-context view. Drupal no content view which is difficult at times to localize.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
What is important to our team is that by using Smartling the entire localization cycle from start to finish is completed in one single platform. Different teams are able to collaborate and communicate via Smartling to solve translation-related problems and get answers to content questions. Smarlting not only leads to cost reductions and quality improvements due to the TM but also to a uniform Terminology that is being shared throughout projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Friendly User-interface, excellent Support and great overall platform for your companies global needs. Always looks for ways to improve and collect customer feedback to accommodate and implement into the platform.

Smartling - An easy to use modern translation management system

  • September 02, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've used other translation CMS in the past and never had difficulties learning the ins and outs of Smartling since the interface is very intuitive. I also like how the high-level contents are organised, which makes things easy to find. I also appreciate that the team has been working on additional quality evaluation features, which I find very crucial for my role as a quality lead. The new integrations that are being introduced also allows us to consolidate most of our workflows into Smartling therefore making things easier to manage.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be great if the Quality Evaluation reports can be filtered using translation jobs, this would help us develop better quality metrics for our LSPs on a per-job level. We had recently started doing quality audits but learned that there's currently no way to filter the scores on a per job basis and this makes it challenging for our translation vendor to consolidate the feedback for their translation resources. Having this feature will greatly improve the daily work that I do in Smartling
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling makes translation management more manageable by providing a comprehensive list of features that are useful for Localisation Project Managers and LSPs alike. Integrating with 3rd party systems (WordPress, Figma, etc.) is an excellent bonus for our organization since we're potentially able to do most of the translation work within the same tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Smartling could be a good TMS option for companies who are just starting to venture into Localization. Its easy to use interface makes a user's learning curve shorter and the comprehensive list of features makes certain tasks easier to accomplish.

Simple but comprehensive translation engine.

What do you like best about the product?
Easily works together with contentful and it's in context view really enables higher quality translations
There are lots of languages that are available and it makes the process of managing translations so much easier than other systems we have used in the past
The integration straight into contentful has been really good, linking each content peice straight into the platform is seemless and I have really enjoyed that link.
What do you dislike about the product?
The email notifications are a bit much, it would be nice if there was a digest you could subscribe to instead of so many individual emails.
If you could more easily connect the two platforms (smartling and contentful) that would be easier for us to jump in and see translations and get specific things retranslated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scaling our translation efforts, it's made it much easier to launch more languages
The benefits of being able to open up more more options to new languages and having a team of translators ready and waiting to jump on and get new content re-written and ready for new countries has been a huge benefit to the business
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are just getting started make sure you evaluate the long term solution for translations for your business, the migration process, especially when you have lots of content and lots of languages is certainly a difficult process so if you start with the best system from the start you are in a really good position.

Smartling is simple and intuitive, has numerous features for a complete localisation solution.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the simplicity of its UI and the fact that it can read/parse numerous file types is very convenient. No more need to convert any documents just to get them translated, unlike translation solutions I've used before. The Smartling account managers are also very responsive to our needs, and always includes us in discussion oh how they can further improve our experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search function lacks a few filters to find very specific strings/set of strings, though this can be overcome with a bit of patience when searching. One other thing is a feature where you can save a specific language set for a specific project, so that whenever a job is created, there would be no need to select languages manually. This is more of a quality of life feature however, and does not impact the functionality of Smartling at all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've been experimenting with several file types to localise different areas in our work, and Smartling makes this easy by allowing these file types to be translated directly. I also like the fact that Smartling has customisable codes that can be added in the files for better parsing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Smartling is a great tool for all translation needs. The UI is simple enough as well to implement and cascade to any new user of an organisation. Plus, the Smartling team are continuously improving the tool and is receptive to feedback and suggestions, so expect this tool to keep improving in the future.
