Smartling is one of the most easy-to-use and user-friendly translation CAT tools I've ever used.
What do you like best about the product?
The error-free and fast-responding auto propagation, TM and MT tools
What do you dislike about the product?
Limited functionality when offline. Sometimes I have limited internet access and this prevented me from progressing in task completion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Any bug found and reported to Smartling was attended to promptly. They communicated with me in person (via email) and made sure a solution was found.
Smartling is a great tool
What do you like best about the product?
The easy navigation and you can find everything
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really, it's very simple and user friendly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Translation issues, correcting mistranslations
Smartling used for direct mail translation - was not super accurate/fast
What do you like best about the product?
Like that this is all through AI / automated
What do you dislike about the product?
Long wait times
Translations are not very accurate - after having native speakers review the translation, there were a lot of changes that we had to make.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Faster, more automated, less manual work when translating marketing creatives. Our direct mail pieces are lengthy and content heavy, so need a tool that can translate everything accurately and quickly.
User-friendly and intuitive Cloud TMS
What do you like best about the product?
- Visual context during the translation process
- Localization features are seamlessly integrated into the translation process, so there is no back and forth between tabs or tools (i.e. glossary, style guide, in-context window, communication on string level with customers, reviewers and other translators)
- Collaborative workflow
- Work from everywhere, no need to download anything

What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it seems that not all clients are leveraging the whole potential of Smartling´s TMS platform and features (e.g. sometimes there is no context at all and delivering translations on a string-level becomes guesswork, especially if - on top of that - issues are not answered). I think that it would benefit everyone if clients know all the ins and outs of the Smartling platform, especially with such an innovative tool like this one, so that they truly understand the benefits of the cloud platform vs. a more traditional offline translation approach.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been using Smartling for over 10 years now and have experienced the benefits of the platform through different roles during these years (Freelance Translator and also Project Manager). The main benefit of Smartling is that the platform is super intuitive to use and you quickly find your way around - at least from a Freelancer's perspective. The tool allows the translators and editors to work in context mode. This means that you see in real-time how your translation will look on a website for example. This is super important for languages that are usually longer than English (German, I am looking at you 😉). You can see in the context window if you are translating a title or a call to action button for example. The translation interface offers several sections with additional info to optimize the translation process (e.g. TM Search, Style Guide, Glossary, QA in one window; Issues, String History, Keys and Additional Info in a side panel etc.). Smartling allows me to be super productive and the translation process is very smooth and collaborative which saves a lot of time. Also, their support team is super helpful if something is not working as it should.
Centralized Managment
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling helps to keep centralized the entire content and let me modify and then apply it to several projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Changes are not dynamic, but I needed to pull changes into my projects, and then deploy again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralized content. Thanks to this tool I don't need to modify each project.
Very easy to use, good follow-up
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use.

Growth plan doesn't allow to create strings on Smartling.
The export of files are the same type of files as imported files. We should've more choices.

Smartling Translations Management / Integration
What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Smartling as a tool/framework is
1. The wonderful and responsive support team - whenever you run into an issue and raise a support ticket, you get a prompt response.
2. CAT tool - The way Jobs are available for translation in Smartling and the in-context interface which helps translators to understand how strings are structured on the page, is amazing.
3. OOTB connectors and Integration with multiple applications through APIs.
We have extended the usage of Smartling to other applications like Iterable as well where we don't have custom connector available. Overall it's a wonderful TMS application and offer lot of features to integarte with custom applications

What do you dislike about the product?
I don't think there is anything to dislike, but there could be a few improvement areas as an end-user, which I can suggest. For example - if someone is using Smartling with AEM and Strings are already published from smartling and synced back in AEM, the job is completed in smartling. Now if translators want to improve upon a few words or strings, there is no way (without customization through a callback), these updated translations can be synced back again in AEM.
This is still an open issue with Smartling <> AEM connector.

We are hosting content in 23 locales and though Smartling, we are able to translate content for multiple locales. This would ensure that there is consistency among all different locale websites and surely it would keep the end-users across the world connected and happy !!
Next year we would be adding multiple new languages to support our european customers.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would highly recommend other customers to use Smartling for their Translation Management purposes..
Great CAT tool, some issues with the order of strings submitted
What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to use! Also, the UI is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't love that sometimes the order of the strings gets mixed up and that makes my job more difficult.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working with more than 80 languages! Smartling makes it easier.
Easy to work with localization tool
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to submit requests, great to download all languages in one file
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be difficult to find old keys, especially with limited access to other projects
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Nothing special
Smartling has great integrations to make localizing apps a breeze

- GitHub Smartling connector; makes automation a breeze
- Contentful Smartling connector
- Rockstar support team (fast responses and dedicated communication)
- Flexibility to handle different localization approaches as well as handle different integrations

What do you dislike about the product?
The Smartling dashboard UI could be improved, a lot happening in the UI. While everything is there and functional, some of the information organization and UI could be more pleasant.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are making it easy to localize/internationalize all our user facing apps at the same time. It helps to all be on one platform that supports the myriad of integrations for each codebase (iOS, web, backend APIs). While all our apps are different, our localization process is largely the same.
