Excellent and easy-to-use translation platform
What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Smartling as a freelance translator, editor and MTPE editor for over three years and I'm absolutely satisfied with it. The task assignment process is quick and smooth, the platform is very user-friendly and the TM as well as all the other language resources are easy to access to always ensure consistency throughout a project. The system also allows you to preview your translation in context (where provided by the client) and to directly communicate with clients whenever clarification or more context is needed. Communication with PMs is also very straightforward, friendly and helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
In rare cases, context is not provided and issues are not answered, which makes it difficult to translate individual strings, but this seems more a problem of clients not using all of the Smartling features, rather than a downside of the system itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I appreciate the time-saving features that are constantly being introduced, such as shortcuts. The new AI Foundation workflow that is being improved is very helpful and the quality of raw MT for MTPE projects is always excellent.
Professional ease

The CAT tool that is by far the best of those I've used

Not always recognised in the industry, especially in surveys

What do you like best about the product?
Being able to work on a good platform without taking on the costs of expensive licences. Professional rates are respected, which shows they value people and their efforts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes deadlines are set automatically, which can be tricky.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Licence costs, ability to work on any computer without any trouble.
Great tool for translators
What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Smartling is that it's available in a browser.

I can't really see any downsides to using Smartling.

Translation Memories and Glossaries are available from every machine.

Big gamechanger for our localisation processes
What do you like best about the product?
smartling is a great tool to work with, either from the translator's perspective or from our project management view. After putting some initial work inside (setting up all users, projects and automated workflows) you can just let the system and its users finish the translations until they are ready. We could reduce the manual actions massively and make the project management more comfortable. I also appreciate a lot the support we get from the team, not just when we implemented the tool but also for every day's questions, reviews or connecting new systems to smartling. The team is super friendly, quick and helpful. Seeing the new releases every few weeks is great, as smartling is continuously improving itself and implementing the customer's feedback as well. We're very happy with smartling and have improved translation speed and reduced costs already.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I'm missing at the moment is some kind of confirmation mail when a job/step is finished, so that I don't lose track of pushing it back to our systems. It would also be nice to have an overview of all users and the complete amount of words assigned to them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's definitely solving the manual process that we have worked with before by automating a lot more steps. In that way, I manage to put more jobs during the day through smartling with less time and effort. Also pushing translations back has become much more easy and saves time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend to do a sandbox test period to see if the tool is meeting your requirements. We were very happy with that.

The Cat tool itself it super user-friendly, it´s like an all-in-one platform where you can even communicate with the customer! Communication with PMs is optimal!
What do you dislike about the product?
I don´t have an area of dislike. Every new implementation is always under review to give us as translators the best tools they can and to make our job easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling is always solving any gap that may arise. This is something that benefits all translators since it helps improve their performance.

There is nothing you can doubt about!!!!
Intuitive CAT tool that allows you to streamline your translation processes
What do you like best about the product?
Its intuitiveness and interface, that is, everything is at hand and I do not have to spend hours learning how to go about it. It allows me to focus my efforts on translation and editing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to change error settings manually.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
None, as far as I am aware. I would like to know more in this regard.

Go for it! You won't find a more easy-to-use CAT tool in the market.

Localization is a very complex problem to tackle, additional guidance on strategies and the nuances of global markets is an aspect of the industry that took a while to fully understand. More education?

Smartling is enabling our small team to do so much with so few resources. We've increased sales in key territories, helped expand brand recognition in new markets, and improve our customer's brand engagement with distributors.

Smartling's platform is amazing, it makes me feel like I have people on my side and ready to help with anything! The best piece of advice I can offer is before you begin a localization project with Smartling, run a full content audit on your target property before you begin - consolidate and simply wherever you can.
A platform that gets better every year, while maintaining a human touch
What do you like best about the product?
Really interesting content and constantly improving features that take into account both clients' and linguists' needs. Fast tech support when you need it. Also, easy access to jobs and a fully automated invoicing system (this may sound like a given, but some translation companies still send linguists pages of instructions on how to invoice them correctly). And last but not least, a very friendly and helpful team.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd love to see a "Follow" button on issues open for translation strings so that any linguist interested in the question could just sign up for updates rather than comment, "Following!" Also, if I need to update published content as an editor, sometimes it can be hard to locate it because one project may have 5-10 subprojects and the search feature doesn't search through all of them at once unless you have access to the "master" section which I am not that familiar with. Access to the workflow from smaller devices would be a huge plus too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a full-time freelancer, I really appreciate the flexibility that Smartling offers and the time-saving features that it regularly introduces, from keyboard shortcuts to easily available glossaries. Smartling was also a huge part of my life during the pandemic when working from home was the only option.

If you are looking for a translation platform that keeps up with the times, this is certainly one of them.

What do you like best about the product?
As a freelance translator, Smartling is a dream to work with. The communication, the workflow, the available work and the CAT tool are great. Everything goes smoothly. I can focus on translating and delivering translation. No time is wasted, and there is just no fuss at all. I highly recommend this company!
What do you dislike about the product?
I really enjoy working with this company, so there is not much that I dislike. Still, maybe I would only wish some clients would send translations even more regularly, or even though I receive a good amount of work, I still wish sometimes I could tell them that I am available for new files.

Smartling is helping businesses by providing translation services, and as a translator, I am more than happy to be a part of that and have the opportunity to translate for them every day.
