Mostly good experience working with the API, though Smartling's job structure is a little unexpected

What do you dislike about the product?
My experience is entirely with working with the API to query, retrieve and push translations. When it comes to working with jobs via the API, it feels like Smartling has been built from a different perspective. Taken by itself, this is absolutely fine; but if you want to create some sort of union with another, say, ERP, CRM or work-tracking system then you'll have to do a bit of processing on your side. For example, where most CAT tools will have some sort of project or job with source file(s) and source and target languages, then perhaps a deadline, Smartling has a list of target languages, inside which are workflows (which are customisable), inside which are job IDs (and associated strings for translation).
Also, there are several webhooks which would be useful for Smartling users who create/publish jobs but, as far as I can see, there are no webhooks at all for consumers of these jobs. Perhaps this is understandable given that those who create/publish jobs are those who are paying for Smartling.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling certainly helps us to help our customers (who have chosen Smartling). Their technical support team is a pleasure to work with.
Great tools to make translations simpler!
What do you like best about the product?
Once integrated into the build process, Smartling handles all of the translations. Smartling provides support as well to manage initial configuration and has good docs for additional support.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be challenging to implement on an extensive scale applications and will add some extra steps to build processes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helped automate our translation and localization processes and integrate into our existing build process.
Smartling is where we can store and access all our content

Having all content (target and source) in one place is very helpful as we can leverage it anytime.
What do you dislike about the product?
We often struggle with TM leveraging "old" translations instead of the current ones.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're outsourcing most of our translation and work with external linguists. Smartling helps us cooperate and track wordcounts and deadlines.

Smartling keeps improving its service features and tries to meet customers' requests.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't rate the translation quality of each string. Suppose this feature is available right on the same page of the CAT TOOL dashboard for review and editing (rather than on a separate page). In that case, Smartling linguists will be more cautious about keeping good quality, and customer satisfaction will be increased.

When I requested the rush work, Smartling tried to accommodate it even though Smartling linguists sometimes couldn't meet the due date.

Smartling makes localization and internationalization trivial for organizations of all size.

Contract negotiations can be tough with sometimes less-than-responsive account executives.

Smartlings GDN offering gives us the flexibility to focus on our strategy and not leave behind our international audiences.

Smartling is solving a lot of translation issues, and it makes me do an easy job.

1. As it is a very vast tool and has a lot of features therefore sometimes it requires a lot of training to understand about a particular feature of the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are managing customers across the globe from different geographies; therefore, it requires a lot of customisations in the white papers or knowledge articles that we publish or pass on to our customers. Smartling is helping us bridge that gap between us and our customers.

Due to its sound filtering system, we are able to find and resolve inconsistency of translation terminology throughout all our products and help articles
Smartling is quite simply an amazing company with timely and responsive support!
What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly; Timely & Responsive support; Cheerful disposition, etc.; Punctuality & good business etiquette (for online meetings, etc.); They also send cookies! :)
What do you dislike about the product?
There is almost nothing I dislike about Smartling, honestly! The beneficial & helpful aspects of Smartling make it so I really cannot think of anything I truly "dislike"!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primarily, Smartling provided the solution of how I would ever be able to get translations for ALL 14 languages we use on our site! It makes my job easier! Huge plus!
