Mixpanel allows you to break silos and bring everyone on the same page.

What do you like best about the product?
Anyone can use it to understand how their product is performing. The level of granularity allows exploration of each specific feature or customer journey within the product. Whether it’s the churn rate or the type of feature a specific persona has used, it covers everything.
What do you dislike about the product?
We use it to record and store user responses so it can be a bit difficult to export raw data from a large sample of survey.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mixpanel brings everyone in the organization to the same level of understanding about the product's health. Having direct user feedback in the same dashboard is really helpful for understanding how many people are using the product and why they either like it or don't.

A Data Analyst's review of Mixpanel after 2 years of usage

  • August 23, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1.) Easy to use and comprehend for non technical users.
2.) The documentation is well made. Examples shown are simple and can be understood by non technical users.
3.) UI is appealing and easy to navigate.
4.) Good filter logic. in SQL, if you apply a filter via a WHERE clause, it will remove records with nulls. That is not the case in Mixpanel which is preferred.
What do you dislike about the product?
1.) Can't select colours for each metric in Insights report
2.) I use custom events a lot. The following would be good:
a.) It would be nice if i could export the entire event list into a CSV, as I need to note down the list of events for a custom event for documentation purposes as they change usually when new app features are released or existing app features are updated. This means the list of events will change, so I need to know when a change was made to the list and what that change was.
b.) Order the list of events alphabetically
c.) Version history (if it is too much, perhaps you can create different saves for a custom event, so then you can see what the list of events were at a specific datetime)
d.) At Lexicon page, create an export function for the Definition for each custom event

3.) For Funnel reports: Regarding the measurement for 'Conversion Rate' > 'Uniques' : It would be good to state if the user can attempt the funnel again. For instance, if the criteria is set to 1 hour, and the first time user did A, the user did not convert, but then the user did A again on another day and completed the funnel, does this user get included in the funnel? IIRC the answer is no, but might be helpful to edit the description that appears when you hover over 'Uniques'. So assuming the answer is no, then the description could be: "Count a single entry per user (user only enters the funnel on first attempt)". Also just to clarify, there are some funnels i want to create where i only want to count the user once if user is succesful and it doesn't matter how many times the user attempts the funnel.

4.) Create another layer of segmentation to group Boards together. Basically a folder that can store one or more boards.

5.) For Insights reports: Allow labelling of Y axis. It may not be obvious to some non technical users to comprehend what the Y axis is referring to. A simple editable text box where the axis can be labelled will be good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Mixpanel to
1.) Analyze, monitor and improve user engagement (DAU,MAU) - Every Monday of the week, we run through Insight reports for high level engagement like average DAU for the week, and the engagement for important events. We view these stats by user segments (B2B/B2C).
2.) Analyze, monitor and improve conversion rates - When we make app changes, we use Mixpanel to monitor changes. Usually a board is created for a given project. Being able to create notes to share important details and make the reports in the board easier to comprehend are crucial capabilities to facilitate the presentation of analytics especially for non technical users i.e. making it fully self servicable so that a technical person doesn't have to waste time explaining how to comprehend the board to non technical users.
3.) Test events during QA stage of a Sprint. Whenever we add new screens or make changes to existing screens, we will test for event triggers using Mixpanel.
4.) Knowing how long users spend on various app features. This is where the custom event capability is handy as we can group various events for a given feature into a single event.

Mixpanel makes my work in data as a Product Manager really enjoyable

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I find mixpanel a very intuitive and scaleable product experience. It can used as simply or as complex as the use case sees fit.
This makes it a relatively low barrier for usage.
Mixpanel is critical for measuring the impact of our experimentation framework and provides a lot of great insights into our work and where to go next
What do you dislike about the product?
I find a few of the report types a little confusing and unituitive. For example, the funnel report can give different starting values to the same event in a metric report. I've discussed with Mixpanel support and they were able to help me but it would be good if product helped with this a bit better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Mixpanel to measure the success and impact of our experiments we're running in our product area. We've gotten very good at delivering small changes and Mixpanel reports make it easy to copy/paste previously used one, alter a few variables and boom we're good to go. They're easily shareable and comsunable by a wide range of stakeholders.
I dont think I would be as successful as a PM in experimentation without the depth of analysis that Mixpanel offers

A good platform for product analysis

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
From an end-user perspective, Mixpanel is very simple to use and, with a little practice, becomes very intuitive. Furthermore, the way in which the format of the available reports was structured makes it much easier to construct product analyses.

I know that I haven't yet mastered the full power of the product, for instance I only discovered the "Mixpanel Apps" because a colleague actively told me about the functionality. But with what I currently know about the product and the features I use is possible to make informed decisions. Now I use Mixpanel almost everyday.
What do you dislike about the product?
The process of implementing the tool is not extremely complex, but I missed greater technical support.

We are currently experiencing issues with the way we are counting and calculating some user data, which will likely result in considerable adjustments to the way we integrate with the platform. I believe this could have been avoided if we had had access to more information and more help when implementing the software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Until we integrated with Mixpanel, we didn't have another product and user data analysis tool. With its implementation, we are changing the way we prioritize the product roadmap based on data analysis.

Excellent For Funnel Analysis

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the most impactful updates Mixpanel released recently in 2024 is the reason it is here to stay within our rotation of product analytics tools, and that was the ability to build funnel reports and include conversion rate metrics within the context of tables. We use this feature update so widely to report on different conversion funnels that we need to split out by many dimensions. This has been immensely helpful for our E-Commerce team, our video engineering teams, our marketing teams, and our monetization teams who want to observe overall conversion but also want to view these metrics at multiple levels of aggregation and granularity. It has been immensely helpful and saves significant time in comparison to building out these reporting metrics manually.
What do you dislike about the product?
The custom properties interface is buggy at times. Activating the drop-down to select properties requires multiple presses of the dot symbol (.).

You can't use the "hold property constant" feature on funnels with custom properties. This would be very useful due to different product events having different structures of data. Some events may have "propertyA" at the root level (Example.propertyA) but other events may have the property nested within an object (Example.detail.propertyA). I would like to be able to create a custom property that can then be held constant in a funnel.

The (not set) value is not selectable as a property value in filters. This would be helpful in reporting when we want to filter to a time before a property was introduced or in filtering for multiple values on a property including (not set).

I wish there simpler built-in regex functions that product managers would be able to use. Not many project managers I work with understand Regex, so I typically have to come in to help design custom properties that require some understanding of Regex filters.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Conversion rates and funnel reporting are the most impactful reports we're able to generate with mixpanel at the moment

    Non-Profit Organization Management

Mixpanel made capturing metrics for our mobile app very straightforward

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I was impressed with how many reports/dashboards I had available to me as soon as we starting capturing events in our mobile app. It was as if it already understood our data without me having to massage it at all, so I was able to immediately begin gaining insights from the reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
We've had a handful of instances where metrics captured in the mobile app while the user was offline (no internet connection) didn't make it to the central repository. It's only happened a couple of times, so it's not enough of a problem that we have spent any time digging into it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's allowing us to monitor the usage of our mobile application (number of active users, new user signups, number of data submissions, etc.) without us having to build the infrastructure accomplish that. We are also publishing exceptions from our app so it's helping us to identify issues more quickly and be able to proactively address problems before our customers even tell us about them.
