Great service for SQL database
What do you like best about the product?
It was very user-friendly for students and equipped with many useful tools. I also appreciated the feature that reminded me to turn off the service when not in use, promoting resourcefulness and mindfulness in managing projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't actually had any problem using Aiven.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helped have a cloud SQL server, that allowed me to have the best project on my class.
An easy solution to use for Kafka
What do you like best about the product?
Convenience and ease of use would strike me as the striking feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Too expensive for me especially if you are an up and coming business, can not compete with rivals
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
If you would like to have things maintained for you and do not want to tackle with resource allocation, performance etc... It is a good option.
Computer Science Class Project Review
What do you like best about the product?
The simplicity of using the platform and uploading my data
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't think there are any issues with the platform or its usage at all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In the first case, the ease of use when making changes to the database is great, and the support is also very good.
We used managed services with Aiven
What do you like best about the product?
We used mongo and kafka managed services from Aiven. Things are quick. Ochestration has done with in few clicks. No need to worry about monitoring and all everything is self-managed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Data transfer charges between cloud accounts are a thing to worry. Need to check it further
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We got a managed kafka cluster. Managing a cluster on on-prem with having critical data is a huge task and need more bandwidth but Aiven made it easy
aiven is amazing
What do you like best about the product?
easy to use and makes managing kafka smooth.
What do you dislike about the product?
lags sometimes when the internet is slow
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
fantastic open-source search and analytics suite including a search engine, NoSQL document database, and visualization interface.
Good product and Easy use
What do you like best about the product?
Aiven is very easy to use and deploy (in our cloud if needed). Their support is good and helpful. They will give us right docs and reference for BYOA too. It is easy to spin up the services and manage users. Pricing is straight forward.
Implementing the communication with Aiven services is almost same with services which we self host or use.
We are using it in production for more than 2 years and it is working well.
What do you dislike about the product?
I feel like bit pricy (Even with BYOA, Instance and storage cost interms of Initial setup cost. Instead of just having double the infra in plans, they can inroduce more adjustable plans to have infra scale.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Aiven is hosting major open-source products/services to easily add to our infra in a cloud agnostic way. I can easily spin up the service and start using it.
An evolving product
What do you like best about the product?
The services are straight forward to configure, theres a lot of documentation which helps one resolve doubts, however if this is not enough one can reach customer support to ask for guidance.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are two features missing which i found relevant they are governance tools and the Pay-as-you-use pricing model. I think that implementing these 2 things will create a more valuable product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a managed cluster it provides the running service with its infrastructure which is very valuable for us as we can focus on improving our event oriented architecture and team integration. Also cluster updates and administration is something we need to concern less.
Faster and easier to use with less maintenance
What is our primary use case?
I use Aiven for Apache Kafka to handle services dependent on each other. Instead of API calls, we use it for asynchronous processing of all our services. That's the general way we use it.
What is most valuable?
What I like best about the tool is that the process for the services is faster compared to other methods. It's easier to use because Aiven for Apache Kafka handles the maintenance, so we have less to manage. We only use Kafka to manage its connectivity.
What needs improvement?
One challenge we face is when we want to update the version, for example, from 3.6 to 3.7. It will spawn new nodes, and then there's rebalancing and syncing from other brokers. There's high CPU usage during this process, so the solution can't be used for a while, causing some downtime in our services. To tackle this challenge, we schedule maintenance updates during low-traffic periods when there's less risk and fewer users use the services.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the product since 2020.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think scalability is quite challenging. When we upgrade the machine or disk or change the machine nodes, the new node needs to rebalance and sync with other brokers. This causes high CPU usage and disrupts Aiven for Apache Kafka and all our services. That's the main challenge for scalability. I'd rate the scalability around seven or eight out of ten, as long as you know the strategy for scaling.
How are customer service and support?
We haven't had any significant issues so far. Our manager can escalate issues to the solution's engineers even when we have issues. They provide a fast response to our incidents and solve our issues. After solving the problem, the engineers also look into the issue to find the root cause.
We've contacted their support before. We submit support tickets and follow up with our account manager. The account manager can then follow up with the engineers, which helps the ticket get processed faster.
Their support team has several experts, especially in Apache Kafka. We can always ask them about specific issues. For example, our principal engineer once asked about Kafka offset, and the account manager was able to handle it and provide best practices.
How would you rate customer service and support?
How was the initial setup?
The tool's deployment is easy. We choose the VPC, the region, and whether we use the solution's VPC or our own. We select the version and the plan (basic or business), create the service, and it is ready to use after a few minutes. That's one of the best things about deploying it.
For security, our services use the solution's default authorization. We have to authenticate and use either SASL or a keystore file for authorization. This ensures that anyone outside our network can't access the topics.
What other advice do I have?
Apache Kafka is really good for streaming data or messaging services. It's comparable to other messaging services.
Overall, I'd rate Aiven for Apache Kafka an eight out of ten.
So far so good, pretty intuitive
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use and speed of configurating. Customer Support is also great.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far, nothing stands out as a clear negative.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping to reduce costs
User-friendly experience
What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to use platform with amazing features and ease of use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes product updates end up flooding the screen
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By providing secure and increased observability for data infrastructure
