LucidLink - Bridging Gap Between On-Prem and Cloud
What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful thing about lucidlink is its ability to provide data access from anywhere worldwide without being slow. We can deploy lucidlink and stop worrying about how users across the globe are going to access the data. Accessing cloud data becomes as easy as mounting a drive on the client machine.
What do you dislike about the product?
For a beginner, it is a bit complex to work on lucidlink and get the most out of it. The process should be simplified for beginners by providing more documents and helping guide users, but I must say that things are moving in the right direction.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a plan to migrate data to the cloud, and there were a lot of storage options available as well. Still, minimal options on how that data can be accessed easily by users on a day-to-day basis, and that too across the world as our users are in different parts of the world. LucidLink not only solves this problem in very few steps but also provides many other features.

Poor documentation regarding centos and linux installations. Additional training opportunities.

High performance cloud storage as a filespace.
Outstanding Piece of Software
What do you like best about the product?
LucidLink allows us to edit in nearly real-time without needing to spend thousands of dollars on server hardware, IT people, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial login process for new users could be a bit simpler and quicker. Also if there's any way to increase real-time speed even more, that'd be great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having to edit with people all over the nation, in real-time and avoiding the cost of physical hardware/people.
It just flawlessly allows us to collaborate with files
What do you like best about the product?
I never have to think about it! It is so rare to have a business software that does NOT need constant teddy bearing, but LucidLink is one such software. Since I've set it up on my mac and mounted the space I'm working with, I have not had to think about what LucidLink does, how it does it, or anything. The connection wakes up by itself when my Mac wakes or after it has been rebooted. And it just works. This software is really helpful for us being in the e-commerce space. We host and collaborate on all of our creatives - videos, ads, pictures, packaging materials, product design, everything. Even the feed files for Amazon, Walmart, eBay, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
That there is no iOS app! This is my biggest drama, honestly. Sometimes, I have a thought while on the go and I know that if I could just open a pdf that is hosted in our company LucidLink space, I can just see what I need and allow my thought to continue... It is pretty minor though, since that only happens when I'm not at work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a small team of 8 people and we are collaborating on graphics files that are needed to create plotter cutter and 3D printing jobs. We host all of our graphics files - ads, videos, pictures, 3D renders. In addition to that, we also host files related to product development and production (from the manufacturing aspect of the business). It just works so well, that we don't need anything else.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When we were researching LucidLink for our company, we chose it for the obvious use case that is on their website about hosting our video projects. However, it is good for so much more. Historically, we've been using Google drive to share files, but Google is nothing but problems. Once we saw how LucidLink works, we transferred everything there and it barely makes a dent in our monthly cost, because the files are much smaller than the video projects.
Lucid solved our biggest issue about moving to the cloud. Delivering large data to our employees.

What do you dislike about the product?
I wish they had more granular security, but I hear it is in the works
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to centralize our file server in one location. We no longer have 5 files server (one in each location) having to sync data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If moving to Lucid and off loading your file server, I would recommend reconfiguring your file server the way you want it to look going forward and not how its always been.
More than just cloud storage
What do you like best about the product?
The fantastic team at Lucid are all about helping find solutions and the close support they have given us in our testbeds has been invaluable. The delivery of cloud as DAS is strikingly seamless for high performance and bandwidth workflows.
What do you dislike about the product?
You pay for what you get and I would imagine some "lighter" cloud use cases would benefit less from the advanced technical implementation and performance available from Lucid.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Lucid is allowing us to explore the decentralisation of data and staff across high bandwidth and volume media workflows.
Flexible, versatile, simple
What do you like best about the product?
Simple to setup for the end user but with a powerful backend and cli for the advanced administrator/integrator.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would love some more administration capability as a reseller/partner for generating user accounts

True distributed cloud file system
What do you like best about the product?
Lucid was the best solution to go from having 1 office to having hundreds of home offices. It allows employees to work where they want and when they want. There is no need to large equipment overhead and we were able to move our files to the cloud and gain the benefits of its uptime and reliability.
What do you dislike about the product?
You do lose a few file-level permission and auditing features. As well Lucid is still in startup phase, support is slow and often the person with the answer is not in your time zone.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were able to move users off the VPN and provide an experience similar to working in the office, yet they can work just about anywhere. We were able to do this without investing in more local resources or equipment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Realize that you can not get all the features and performance in one package, what is more important. Lucid excels in performance.
LucidLink has been essential for me and my team.
What do you like best about the product?
In a remote environment, LucidLink has provided the connectivity my team needs. When building the team and our workflow, LucidLink solved many of the problems we were struggling to find solutions for. We use Lucid as our primary server, storing video assets, adobe project files and any ancillary content. We often have contractors edit directly off the server in real-time, replacing the need to purchase and ship hard drives around the country. The support team is always quick to respond and has several fixes for any hiccup we may encounter (though there have been few).
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest downside of LucidLink comes only when internet connection is poor and our ability to access the server suffers. This is no fault of the product, in fact, there are fail-safes to manage this such as pinning media locally from the server to bypass slow speeds. One small suggestion I have for the team is to add more notification features - for example, when an upload of media is completed, a user can be notified.

Saving money on copying and shipping footage to editors in different locations. Quickly sharing graphics and other assets with people working from different locations.

Speed and ease of use. It's very good and very secure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would like built-in support for mounting and monitoring multiple drives.

Remote workers looking at full quality media in real time, patching and changing files and only uploading changes rather than entire files.
