My LucidLink Review

  • May 15, 2025
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Seamless, no hassle collaboration working remotely with a team with a complex vfx/animation pipeline
What do you dislike about the product?
Only trouble I had was operating either LucidLink vs LucidLink Classic. Also had some issues with the whole system not posting properly when the project database got too full, but that could have been due to the limitations of my own hardware.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solves the issue of file sharing working remotely in a fast paced connected workflow with many members updating projects real time.

Gamechanging software

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- File blocking technology to enable immediate playback in Premiere / Resolve rather than having to cache an entire video file.
- Caching to external SSD.
- Cache to timeline range only.
- Integration with Frame.io
- Premiere Pro panel extension is very well designed.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Inability to migrate a project cache residing on an external SSD from one computer to another (e.g. if you have to move edit suites) / cache resets.
- All data is encrypted meaning you have to use to app to access.
- Lack of metrics for things like file caching ETA, data throughput etc.
- Sharing & playback of file links. Classic app only supports another user who has a mounted volume & playback via a traditional media app.
- Deletion of cache is still done via Terminal. This needs to be built into the app
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Lack of access to a SAN storage for external freelancers.

What do you like best about the product?
i like the interface that tells me how much more the files have to upload before being complete.i also like how i can customize permissions.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it had a phone/ipad app. it would be handy to be able to access files away from the desktop.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
speed and ease of use. easy logins,

Amazing tool for collaborative video editing

  • May 15, 2025
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how I can upload files directly to it, and don't have to have local hard drive space available on my system. It's easy to setup and manage. I can work collaboratively with assistant editors and other editors on the same project using the same media without having to deal with relinking of managing the remote work aspect of the project. It's a great tool to use with Avid Media Composer or Premiere pro. I love how you can set different workspaces for different projects and pay for the storage that you need for each one individually. I love how I can access the media and project from anywhere, I can go to a coffee shop and work if i want and not have to worry about lugging around hard drives. I use it every day for most of my projects and it even keeps me more organized then having a bunch of different hard drives.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a little slow when working in premiere. I usually have to make proxies for all video media, which is an extra step and can sometimes cause media issues intermittenly throughout the project. But it works great with avid, whose whole workflow is proxy based anyway. Just store the avid mediafiles on lucid! It could also be because of my connection, I usually use over wifi with my laptop and if i was hard wired in, it might be faster. Or it could be a problem with Premiere, because theres always a problem with premiere.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working collaboratively on remote video editing projects and filmmaking.

    Media Production

Worst service of its type ever experienced. I'll go out of my way to tell people to not use it.

What do you like best about the product?
I hated every second of using it. Botched installers, unclear background processes, poor indication of file online/offline status, slow.
What do you dislike about the product?
This service seems to be made for an editor or maybe two editors working remotely. My tiny team (3 people) doing VFX on a couple hundred shots were ground to an absolute standstill by how horribly this tool is designed. I cannot spend enough time ranting about how insanely poorly every single part of Lucid Link is designed and implemented and cannot WAIT to never have to use it ever again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It literally created problems. We could have used Dropbox or Drive and spent far less time re-installing it after botched installers, pinning to download files that we had just created, waiting for entire directories to come back online after they went offline, managing stupid pathing issues between Windows and Mac OS (which are solved on every other similar service, btw).

LucidLink - A Gamechanger for Remote Crews

  • May 15, 2025
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We love the flexibility and speed of LucidLink. Most of our projects take us on the road, so having the ability to create proxies onsite while filming, upload them after we wrap and have an editor based in a completely different location immediately be able to start cutting has been a lifesaver for us. The ease of adding and removing users and adjusting what they have access to is also hugely beneficial.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't think I can really find much to say negatively about LucidLink. If I had to think of one thing, it would be the amount of time it's taking to allow current users to upgrade to their new V3 release instead of having to start up a whole new workspace. We'd like to upgrade our database and be able to take advantage of the new features but they've yet to release the tool to do so. In my opinion, I'd have preferred they aimed at releasing it for current customers first instead of making it like a new product that you have to start over to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
LucidLink solves the problem of not having to use services like Dropbox or Google Drive nor shipping hard drives to editors in order to get them going on a project. It also allows us to keep our project file and folder structures intact and makes archiving projects from remote editors a breeze.

Then in today's flexible working environment, it allows me to un-tether from the office more frequently. When I'm in the middle of a multi day edit, gone are the days of putting all the media on a drive and having to take that home in order to work off of.

Great for working world wide

What do you like best about the product?
My job entails reviewing and editing videos for F1 races with 23 races on the calendar it is full on with very quick turn arounds lucidlink allows me to edit with out downloading and get videos from camera men in real time it also servers as a central hub for storage and transfer.

I do still need to learn all the extras but so far its basicly been plug and play.
What do you dislike about the product?
On my mac when I preview with space bar its not that great this is definitely my net speed which is actualy very good but maybe it could preview in a lower format.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
working world wide with people I haven't even met it works great.
